It would be kind of ridiculous for Steven to take over the AU job without having ANY head coaching experience.

I mean, in football we are definitely guilty of this but it would be like hiring Kodi Burns to be HC after a few years as GA

I don't see the parallel.

Bruce has said many times that he leaves substantial parts of gameplans to Steven and burgie.

When Kodi is drawing up gameplans and controlling assignments for Kirby, call me and please let me know.

Maybe I'm dumb, but there was a job he wanted and had interest in, but they couldn't wait on him because of the portal window. I was thinking it was murray state.

The idea of Steven taking over for BP is slowly growing on me (although in an ideal world I'd still want Buzz somehow)

Agreed. But Bruce has made this an attractive job. We’ve got more trophies in our case, regularly make the tourney and have some of the best facilities in the country. Auburn is consistently one of the toughest places to play in the country because of the jungle. We should at least have a search so we can see what the pool is like.

I don’t think it’s fair to Steven for him to follow a legend like his father. He needs to go somewhere else before he comes to Auburn. Whoever follows Bruce has very little head room and anything less than competing year in year out did SEC championships and final fours is a let down. Someone will come in and he’ll get fired after a few seasons and then Steven comes in to great fanfare.

Bruce Pearl is one of a kind. Having said that, he is still our coach and talking about who his replacement will be is like talking about your parents inheritance before they die. Too soon. Enjoy the moment. It will be gone soon. LFG

Lot of moving pieces to this one, but Samford may be opening up soon. I’d be willing to bet Steven gets a look if it does.

I am fully onboard with Bucky as Asst. HC and Steven Pearl to Samford.

The guy that was mentioned in basically every head coaching search got a job, thanks for the bump.

I don’t think it was bumped because Bucky went to aTm. Try to keep up genius

Bumped it because I think Steven will be in play... I actually thought bucky was going to get the UAB job because Kennedy was thinking about stepping down.

It was well known that Bucky didn't want to leave birmingham because of his kids unless it was a huge offer, which he got.

Not gonna lie... I always wanted Bucky to replace Bruce when he finally stepped down...

Maybe A&M can be a stepping stone for that.

Woohoo! Loved me some Bucky Ball when he won 5 titles at Mountain Brook. Those were some fun times. I am glad he’s going to TAMU for some SEC experience and put his style to the test in a tough league. I don’t have a high basketball IQ but not sure if his frenetic style will translate to the SEC with bigger and faster athletes but time will tell.

Best team bought in the state. Bucky is a good coach though. Good to see someone work up the ranks

I have heard the tentative plan is for him to go somewhere and get his feet wet as a HC and come back once Bruce retires.

Really no reason for him to do this right?

Scheyer didn't and he's doing juuuuust fine. I think Steven would slip into the HC position pretty easily.

I kinda agree with this - probably our best chance at maintaining Bruce's success is with someone who's studying under him every day for the last 15 years.
