It's kinda funny how two of the most undersized guys on defense (Garrett and Therezie) are flourishing in Johnson's scheme and could never see the field for BVG
Why is that funny? Both guys are "flourishing" at a safety tweener position which doesn't exist in a 4-3 defense.

Is Garrett too small for LB?
He's not big enough for LB in Johnson's defense. We're not going to have a LB smaller than 235 or so with Johnson as the DC. Garrett would need to put on at least 20 more lb's to have the size Johnson wants for his LB's. Look at who we've got working at LB now. Holland - 235ish, Frost - 235ish, McKinzey - 240ish, Owens - 250ish, Swain - 245ish, Landrum - 245ish. I know they moved Mitchell back, but he'll put on more weight over the next year or so and is a little taller than Garrett, and from the sound of it, Johnson just said he looks much more comfortable at LB.
You've got to have size at LB in this defense. Your third LB, when the Star takes on that role is going to be in the 210-220 range, so if you've got another smaller LB playing, you're losing a lot of size, which will only fly if your DL is consistently very good. Tuberville made it happen with some smaller LB's, but those DL's were some of the best in the SEC year in and year out. We're not close to there yet on the DL.

J Hoke was just on the D&B show and he said from what he has seen and heard he felt the starting qb job was Kiehl's to lose.

Tell him to shut his whore mouth!!

I understand his point, but he needs to know he is wrong, and I hate him.

That really shouldn't be surprising to anyone, all things considered.

It isn't a surprise to me, I just was peaking in to see who might give a mini meltdown...

It actually makes sense when you breakdown the Star position. From what I gather it requires decent size , speed, and someone that is tough as hell. Sounds like Garrett and Therezie fit the bill perfectly. Fact is Garrett is the poster boy for tackling and toughness during Spring.

I hope kf and jw each get at least 15 pass attempts in the spring game. I need to witness this "new" kf

It won't matter...we witnessed a "new" KF last year's A-Day game...and yea umm, last season happened...

Tru, I just need to see why writers are saying he's ahead of Wallace

You all didn't think it would benefit KF having played for Malzahn before and playing his offense through HS. Not saying KF will end up being the starter at all by fall, but J Wallace is a great kid, but let's face it, he was on his way to UCF.

Lot of guys slip through the cracks and go to midmajors. Look at the first round of the NFL draft and see. Chance Warmack only had a handful of offers for example. Not saying Wallace is one of them but that is not a good argument.
Talking to people on the team and even with Malzahn's offense, some are skeptical that Keihl will ever be "the guy." He is described timid and soft spoken. His throwing accuracy has a lot to be desired. Then we all saw his in game decision making last year.
I like John Wallace and he puts in the time and effort. I still think Nick Marshall ends up starting

Because unless J-Wall has done a 180, he can't throw worth a damn either. If he could he would be taking first team snaps instead of KF right now given he is light years ahead in confidence and heart.

Where did Garrett come from? I don't remember him during the recruiting process. Also, how was he rated coming out of high school?
