I know he said it, but we don't know if he meant it. Staff could have made him say it. Regardless, sounds like he is really excited about it.

Owens is a big kid

Some good news: Avery Young expects to be a RS freshman this season. He only played in the first 3 games before be sidelined with his shoulder injury. He said the paperwork has already been submitted

Mack VanGorder is still on the team, didn't realize that. Did his dad ever get a job?

He was even more upset after the flex period. They were doing individual sled drills and Grimes still wasn't feeling the effort. He made reference to 3-9 and how he wasn't changing; they're going to have to change. Then Greg Robinson really hustled during the next drill. That helped.

Just the fact that we'll be much bigger I think will help us in the run game / tacking department.

On obvious running downs we should have in the box

Mckinnzy 6'3 245
Frost 6'2 230
Garrett 6'1 215

as compared to last year

Bates 5'11 215
Holland 6'1 235
Evans 5'11 225

It's hard for me to not be excited about the potential talent we have at linebacker (including the STAR position) right now and what we could see on the field this coming season. LaDarius Owens, Cass McKinzy, Kris Frost and Brandon King all have me ready to see the Spring Game and summer practice videos. Hopefully, and by "hopefully" I mean "he better fricking not", Jake Holland will see the bench at least 80% of the time. I'd rather see Cam Toney earn playing time.

The potential at wide receiver also has me on the edge of my seat. RiCardo Louis, Sammie Coates, and Melvin Ray are all big guys capable of going up and getting the ball. Louis and Coates can flat out fly, and it'll be a sight to see them used in Gus Malzahn's passing attack. Quan Bray and Trovon Reed, once again, have chances to be threats in the slot. I expect to see Jaylon Denson in the game on running downs again, which is what he was mainly used for during the 2011 season.

I'm trying to stay pessimistic, but damn, it's hard...

I'll reserve my opinion til around halftime of Game1. I don't want to get all excited right now through fall practice, and then see us look like crap against Wash St.

Yeah, with the recent past, I'll probably be eating my words shortly after the season starts.

6-6 with a bowl not in Birmingham is as high of expectations as I'm willing to get
