I wish Thompson had come in the spring. Everyone is gushing over Coleman, and well they should, but come late fall when the defense is worrying about him (the way everyone worried about Lynn Swann) your boy Perry Thompson (aka John Stallworth) is gonna eat.
I do hope we get the DB all sorted out, lots and lots of talent, just need to get them in the right spots. OL settle on starters and get them working as a unit.
Please let some of these young DL help on the outside, maybe Blockton on the inside.
Lastly, pick me up a couple of interior DL. in the portal.

I would expect it to be mid season before you see significant snaps from Thompson and would expect a limited route tree from him. It is very difficult to come in as a true freshman and pick up an offense. Especially an RPO offense. Same for Simmons however I think he can give ups some burn on special teams because he seems fast and physical.
The guys going through spring have a huge advantage.

I would say if we count the Buck as a DL we need 4 in the portal. 2 interior 1 strong side and 1 rush end. I’m not sure we don’t need a corner or nickel from the portal as well.
Offensively the players we have just have to play better period and that is for every position. Especially our “star” players… Hunter has to pass protect better, fairweather has to dominate defensive backs blocking in the open field, OL has to keep the pocket clean, Thorne has to check down more and throw fewer interceptions. The WR room has get much better. I think having Maurice Harris helping Marcus with the WRs is going to make a big difference.

I agree on Thompson, thats why I said "late fall".
I think strongside we will be okay on DL if Faulk stays there. You have Amaris and DJ Lindsey to back him up, but it will be inexperienced. Same with edge MacLoed and two true freshman, but darn talented.
Interior is what is scary. Jayson Jones, lets face it, he doesnt scare anyone, and then Zeke Walker, Travis, Reed, Trill, Gage Keys, Blockton. Next year we will have a good haul for interior, but they will still be a year away from being peak. Love to get a couple interior guys who are very good and have a couple of years, but probably wishful thinking, will end up with a couple of one and done.

OK I need updates.. my schedule just freed up through March and baseball is boring, so spring practice gets all my attention now.

I watched that interview with Austin and he talked about the QBs. Couple of notes.
Thorne he said is very good at picking up things, and got blamed for a lot of things that were not his fault. He mentioned the bama play where we were down on the six and had three set to the right, it was a running play and we had practiced it several times. He said during the walk through I mentioned to him that if you see the eyes of the CB looking at the RB or creeping, change the play turn and throw to the TE on the left side of the field. He saw it changed the play and hit the TE in the facemask.....
On Hank Brown he said Dilfer coached him in HS and he came in far ahead of most QBs entering college. And he saw him play and spoke with Trent about him etc. He said dont let that aw shucks demeanor fool you when you are talking to him. He said I have seen many kids practice perfect and just cant do it in a game, Hank., when the lights come on.....he wants the ball. He said the Maryland game I asked him if he was ready to go in, not exactly ideal given we hadnt been able to move the ball, he just said "no worries" and you see what happened.

I was trying to find out some real information I posted this same information in there recruiting thread but this is about all I have gathered.
I asked around this is what I was told.
It’s Thorne and it’s not even close.
OL is looking good.
DL is not looking good.
Spring Camden Brown is back. Lewis is the most consistent WR so far.
We have 3 really good linebackers.
McLeod is good in speed rush.
DBs are physical.

The ray of hope was playing it very close and threatening UGly and beating bama for all but a fluke. Most of what was in-between those, was bland and uninspiring.

Yeah that's my fear with the DL this year. Its going to be a major weakness and there's just no way around it.

Gotta get a minimum of 2 interior DL in the portal. That’s the only hope. There is absolutely zero pass rush interior and only one player slightly above average in pass rush on the team. McLeod. Now some of the younger guys could make a jump late spring through the summer but we are not in a great spot with winning experienced players on the DL.

Need an edge rush in the worst kind of way

I think we're having or had another scrimmage today. Hopefully some info leaks out.

Scrimmage dominated by the defense but Thorne had 3 TD passes to Fairweather, Lewis and Coleman. Hank with 1 TD and 1 pick 6

Thanks for the info. I don't think I can remember a spring with less available information.

Looks like Jaylin Crawford and Kaleb Harris had picks today. Jaylin had the pick-6 off Hank Brown

All I want is an offense capable of scoring 24 or more against every team on the schedule. If Coleman is the sensation everyone is claiming him to be, then that MIGHT be possible. Add in a solid defense and you have a recipe for 9-4

Nice, pass TDs to tight end, slot and wideout. Sounds like what you would expect, running base scripted plays.
Defense is always going to look better, they know whats coming, they have been practicing against those plays every day. Id be disappointed if they didnt have picks, means they can even read plays they have seen a dozen times.
Johnny Im looking forward to about mid season when Thompson starts to hit his stride, and is paired up with Coleman, that is truly gonna be chose your poison. Backing off the safeties and our running backs will start to eat. Throw in some underneath to slot and TEs, oh this offense is gonna be fun to watch......finally.

Not to burst anyone’s bubble but Thorne has been ok. The rest of the QBs have been downright bad.
The OL has been pretty danged good. The running backs are about what you would expect.
Defensive physicality is the big difference from last year. The back 7 is knocking the shite out of folks even though no tackling to the ground. Hats off to Durkin for that
