There were probably factions of the base that wanted Smart or Petrino. As for me:
- I knew our offense was already 50 to 75% built for his offense.
- I was just ready to score points again (lol at me in 2015 and partially 2016.)
- I felt Gus was held back by Chizik

... nor his.

You do know it's not about having enough cents, it's more about not making enough sense, and being shackled with the length of the deal.

So was the money yours? ...#ezmoney #top-hat #nostrildamus

I’m not really arguing the hire. I’m just saying it wasn’t a hire everyone loved or hated.

He does. Like him or not it took some courage to make the decision. There was a reason we were his best option. Of course in classic JJ fashion he also forced Person on him. Let's see how that plays out before we declare this project reclaimed.

Yes. This just proves that a blind hog will find an acorn every now and then.

Bigger question is who do we blame for 49 million spent?

Who gives a frick how much it is. Its not going to change a singe thing for any of us if they give him 20 million or 60 million. The ticket prices and concession is going to go with the market no matter what

Why are so many of your caught up on how much the coaches get paid? It will not affect a single one of us

Sure it will. Unless they specifically state the boosters are paying the salary, then the fans will see ticket and concession increases, at the very least

As said it less about money and more the length of his contract. Say it's good for recruiting, perhaps but time will tell if he can actually use the talent. The money come's into account when it's deemed time for a coach to go. Because then that 6*7 mil (or 5*7 or 4*7) will begin to matter. The contract was simply too long and the annoying 49 is simply a function of that.

IMO he's really not show the ability to develop his own talent, has to JUCo or Grad-Trans to make up for it, and is unwilling to play enough players to keep from exhausting the few he'll trust. His play calling is astonishing in it's predictability. And loosing the big games at the end is unacceptable if it's from not having another RB ready. This isn't some mid-America conference team with 2 two star running backs. Either they're there not being put to use, he's choose the wrong ones, he's not good enough to have them ready, or he's choosing head cases that end up gone.

Maybe you see it different... I hope he proves me wrong... those will be a good days. WDE

Like most I want more from Gus, but I like the guaranteed money. Hopefully, it will prevent other teams from being able to use it in recruiting against Gus for the next 3 to 4 cycles. I don't know why we had the RB issue, but Gus has shown an ability to learn so hopefully he'll learn from it.

I do believe our fans are soft as charmin sometimes.

I think that’s who everyone thought we should go after. He helped execute the deal.

He also chased away a swim coach who had turned Auburn into the top destination for international and US swimmers.

That is going to happen regardless of the amount we pay a coach. The market is rising and there is nothing you can do about it except try to keep up.

If the market went up for head coaches and Auburn sit idle by paying some guy 1 mil a year to save money, you guys would be bitching about not spending the money to get a guy who could win.

If you want to keep up, you will need to pay

Doesn't mean you must sign Gus to 7 years.

Oh I agree with all that. I was just pointing out that it does affect the fans to an extent.

But, I don't necessarily care. It's the market. It's more so, has he earned it or are we just paying to pay?

I think Auburn did the right thing.

Yeah, constantly claimed by JJ haters but never once has a scintilla of evidence been provided that this was the case.

As a matter of fact, and this IS a fact, the reality that Marsh arranged for the man he respected over and above anyone else, his swimming godfather Richard Quick, to come back and take over his program (working for Jay Jacobs if you’ve forgotten) as he walked out the door greatly belies this piece of “common wisdom” silliness.

I guess, but let's not forget the shape he put the program in which caused the need to hire Pearl.

I'm glad JJ had the balls to do it... a good decision indeed that should go in the positive category

Supposedly quite a few big boosters like Tim Jackson per beat writers. None think TJ has enough support though
