Let's talk about them...been hearing some thoughts about how they could be affecting our young OL. What are the thoughts in here? I look at our guys and they clearly aren't playing to their ability, but let's be honest maybe they just suck.

Could the RPO's be causing the slight amount of 2nd guessing that could negatively affect a young line? I say junk them, Stidham can't read them right anyway.

Shouldn’t effect OL play at all, outside of not getting to far upfield. RPO’s would only create problems for Stidham or WR/RB’s

Which leads you to be less aggressive and physical in run blocking which I believe was his whole point

The OL is just bad. Our running game does not scare anyone. Other teams just pin their ears back and go after Stidham. We average 2.7 YPC. That is terrible.

If this was a real problem, zone blocking schemes wouldnt be so prevalent and successful in both the NFL and college

The OL getting blown into the backfield on 1v1 matchups isn't a scheme problem

That's the point...for a young, inexperienced OL it seems your asking them to do one more thing.

The way the game has changed, no. These kids grow up running RPOs. And the ones playing in the SEC have been going to camps and getting coached up for years. It's not like it is a new concept to them. They're just not very good.

No you aren't. On a RPO, the OL blocks run and doesn't worry about pass blocking

In a zone blocking scheme used in RPOs, OL aren't trying to block upfield in run blocking

As I said, this isn't a scheme issue

I tottaly forgot we switched to zone blocking when Chip arrived. It does not seem to be messing with Gus' overall scheme. We were man blocking under Gus for the first few years.

But really with the poor talent we have, it does not matter what we run.

On an RPO the Oline run block "low hats" the defense reads low hats and think "run". The QB reads the outside lb and if he crashes in on the handoff he tosses it out the wr. If the lb doesn't read run and cheats toward the slot then he hands the ball off. Really has nothing to do with the OLine.

The oline is just getting bullied. Losing 1v1s and not picking up pressure looks.

1 think teams do that struggle with this is bring in 1 or even 2 TEs. We briefly used some heavy sets like this against LSU. Not sure why we aren't doing it more.
