He inherited a good situation at Boise State from his predecessor, Chris Peterson. I did not watch too many of their games when he was there but the play calling made little sense at times. Harsin might have more success with a good offensive coordinator but his choices so far have been mediocre at best.

I am. Honest question............what exactly does not supporting the HC gain?

Well in general, if you believe a coach to be leading Auburn into the pits you just don’t want them there as long. I can’t root against our players or tune out football seasons, so I’m left with hoping the coach falls on his face. Hoping that Gus handles negative recruiting on the recruiting trails is just counter productive if you think he isn’t a good coach.

Bruce was given a long enough leash to implement his program. He had shown he could be successful at this level. I didn't hear fans bitching about his putrid start.

Butch was given the opportunity to establish his program. He had not shown a damn thing previously as far as running his program. I didn't hear fans bitching about his 8 conf. win start.

Year 1:
-Bruce leads Auburn much deeper into the SEC tourney than expected
- Bruce inherited a graveyard of a program.
- Bruce had a solid reputation as a great coach with proven success in the SEC
- A great recruiter

Butch
- proven success at MSU as an assistant HC
- inherited a crappy program.
- a great recruiter
-coached in a sport where Auburn fans generally care less than football so a leash naturally longer

-Harsin:
- no proven success in the P5
- Crap recruiter and regional fit. If he was a good recruiter we wouldn’t even be having this conversation.
-PTB never wanted him so questions of how long he will stick around
- Fell beneath the lows of the previous HC.

Recruiting at least breeds hope. That’s what Harsin needs

At the risk of being accused of defending Harsin, I disagree with this statement.

Sure, we lost 5 in a row and ended up under .500, two feats that Gustav never accomplished. Playing 11 consecutive bowl teams (something no other AU HC had ever faced) had something to do with that

But the product in the field was lightyears better than AU circa 2015 or 2020, record be damned.

2021 - 3 wins vs 8 conf opponents
2020 - 6 wins vs 10 conf opponents

And 2021 the product on the field was better? Seriously

2021 SEC wins (Overall record/ SEC record):

@ LSU (6-7 / 3-5)
@ Arky (9-4 / 4-4)
Ole Miss (10-3 / 6-2)

2020 SEC Wins (Overall record / SEC record):

UK (5-6 / 4-6)
Arky (3-7 / 3-7)
Ole Miss (5-5 / 4-5)
LSU (5-5 / 5-5)
UT (3-7 / 3-7)
MSU (4-7 / 3-7)

Not a single win over a team that finished over .500 overall. And a loss to a team (SC) that finished 2-8.

But go ahead and think that we were a better team in 2020 than 2021.

An SEC only schedule. If we cherry pick stats and add in 4 non conference teams they possibly win 4 more games going 10-2ish. But the product was better last year doesn’t add up to reality.

You gonna tell me next that men can have babies and we aren’t in a recession now just a transition. Lol

and Gus turned it into a mediocre program.
did you think we have been anything but? 8-4 is the Auburn norm with a magical season sprinkled in when we are senior laden

quote:

We couldn't beat LSU or UGA anywhere
Thats just not the case. If you said consistently, then yes.

quote:

We only hoped to beat bama every other year.
We hope to beat them every year, or at least as an Auburn fan thats how i see it.

quote:

He never beat LSU, UGA or bama on the road.
Meh, those teams have issues playing in JH as well. Now add up all the national championships those team won during his tenure and you will see why we lost

quote:

The reason the series record with UGA has grown is because of Gus.
Agree. frick Gus

quote:

It was basically tied when he took over.
Yeah, we wont ever see it tied again. Auburn fans have already accepted themselves as a lesser program. Sad

Petersen won ten per year, Harsin won nine. All things beiing equal I'd say that's alright. You aren't alright with that? OK. I need more tequila shots. You do you amigo. I'll do me.

I will never think AU is a lesser program. In my lifetime we’ve won as much as we’ve lost regardless of circumstances.

You still think we would have won 8-9 regular season games last year with Gustav. THAT doesn't add up to reality.

In 2020, we were extremely fortunate to get a great call in the Arky game that prevented a sure loss, and a great no-call in the Ole Miss game that prevented a likely loss.

Our big problem in 2021 was inability to close the deal, as we led, were tied, or were within one score in the 4th quarter in every game but UGa. In 2020 we trailed by double digits going into the 4th in 4 of our 5 losses, including against a Cocks team that would lose their next 6 straight and fire their HC.

What happens in even years had no bearing on the odd numbered years. How you didn’t get that after 2012-2013, 2016-2017, and 2018-2019 I have no clue but you cannot claim reality. 2015 happened only because Gus got blindsided and ended with no QB.

We win by dumb 4th and long luck against Georgia State lol

Against all those teams you listed. Georgia has been on a roll for the past decade against us. Big whoop we had the lead in the series for 30 plus years. We will get back however the growth of Atlanta and no in state competition really helps Georgia but Auburn will never back down to those mutts

This is superstitious nonsense.

Our two greatest seasons in the modern era were 2004 and 2010. This even/odd bullshite is beneath you.

Yeah, it's tougher playing good teams on the road, and Bama and UGa have been the two best teams in the league. But they don't explain why we lost all the other games we lost in those even-numbered years you mentioned.

Gus was not man enough to beat UGA. His soft gimmicky shite did nothing against them.

I’m talking in Gus terms. Not historically. When Gus had 0 QBs on his roster he still finished with 7 wins. To act like he couldn’t get 8 wins is uncorroborated by previous rotations.

I agree Gus could pull out the 8 win seasons. But when did he have 0 Qbs?

To act like he could have beaten LSU or a good Arky team on the road, or a better Ole Miss team at home, or beaten any of the teams we lost to last year save for maybe MSU is equally uncorroborated.

I can just imagine how great we would have looked against Bama with Grant Loy under center.
