You don't have to look very hard

The opinion is just to burn it down and start over. That is the Auburn fan way. It always has been and it wont change because people use their emotions and not their heads

Your head tells you that if you want things to change you have to change them. That's about as logical, cut and dry, and bereft of emotion as it gets.

Fact is the only reason Gus is still here and has a chance to rehab his image is that buyout. No less than 4 losses (even the year he won the west and got the extension with the buyout) year in and year out for 6 years should get you fired.

This is pretty much right. I have my issues with Gus and they’re very much in line with your issues with Gus’s offense. I don’t feel the need to make up shite to be mad at him about though.

“Running KJ into the ground” is serious hyperbole. KJ was injured when he got hit while stretching out for the GL. KJ made a football play that invited vulnerability. We scored that drive and that drive proved to be critical against Bama. Sometimes players have to go the distance if the situation calls upon it. Desperate times call for desperate measures. KJ just ran 25 times three days ago and almost led to a win over Kansas City. Pitchers sometimes throw more over their norm to collect a win. Strasburg came out of the bullpen yesterday to help the Nats advance out of the wild card game.

The only issue I can have with KJ’s snap count was his snap count against Mercer. But again, we only held a one possession lead at halftime and KJ only played maybe one drive in the second half.

We have very justifiable reasons for it.

Sometimes they aren’t that justifiable. Just idealistic maybe.

-“Running KJ into the ground” is one and already addressed.
- “Gus is going to make the FOF all about him!” and “FOF isn’t going anywhere because Gus doesn’t know what he wants!” were a load of crock. They are kinda contradicting as well and don’t have to go any farther.

- “Why would Gus put such an evil contract on us!”
-The buyout was there for a reason and that reason is because he knew Auburn would try to squirm their way out of it. It was strictly business. If Gus’s career is in fact turned around, we might even appreciate the placement of the buyout later on.
- “Gus cannot develop HS quarterbacks.”
- Even if that was true, what does that matter? Win with transfers or HS recruits, just win.

Some reasonable justifications:
-Auburn offense as it relates to the NFL.
-QB, WRs, and OL aren’t deemed ready for the NFL and invites negative recruiting. All would be mitigated with winning, but become increasingly annoying if we aren’t winning.
- Putting eggs in one basket and this relates to KJ (although let’s not forgot Pettway was intended on being there)Too many times just one injury or recruiting miss killed a whole season. Well rounded depth is critical.
-JJ
-SW
-JF3
- Kerryon
- Responsibilities of backup QB
- our backup should be prepared to play just in case of injury. Running the full offense at least helps

There's more in your justifiable list than the other lol. And you managed to miss the biggest one of all. 4+ losses 6 seasons in a row. This always gets avoided somehow.

I tried bulleting. Apparently this forum doesn’t allow it.

There are real justified criticisms out there. I’m just saying some of them are just agenda driven. And that happens with all coaches. Cristobal has plenty of justifiable criticisms but when one of them is he didn’t bleed the play clock down on offense in the second half against Auburn, you have to separate the nonsense from the substance.

Sadly you have to copy and paste the bullet point symbol but you can get them to show up

I think the majority of people who were negative about Gus were willing to give him a fair shot. I think Gus is doing great this year, but that doesn't excuse the stuff in the past. This is his 8th season as a head coach, so hopefully he has figured it out.

This...

I'll say this too... he has clearly had a transformation in how he is approaching this season. He's more confident in PC's, he is not acting paranoid, he has assessed his talent well and is applying talent to task, and he has a QB who has talent but is also a humble leader willing to do what it takes to win football games (unlike Stidham who had all the measurables but had the heart of a ground hog)

Thanks. That’s a lot of work to clean up my post.

Is Chicken ever going to update the forums? It’s 2019.

Gus sent an email to every student yesterday thanking them for their support and letting them know how much he appreciates it.

The bigger issue with this one is we have no clear cut plan when it comes to recruiting offensively. We do not recruit a "type" of player for a certain position. We recruit good players and kids that are great athletes, regardless if they truly have a good fit in our offense.

I don’t think that’s true. Boobee and Joiner were late throw-ins to the ‘17 and ‘18 class. Not really part of a plan. Gus definitely has a type for the RBs, TE/HB, and WRs. But his offense works best with flexibility - keeping guys on the field that can play multiple roles to keep the pressure on the defense.

I thought for a while that there was no rhyme or reason to the QBs but from the guys he targets on the trail - he’s mostly looking for a deep ball. He certainly prefers his QB to be able to run but #1 is the getting the ball down field. On the flip side of that, at WR he has three types: little guy with some wiggle, 50/50 guy, and a burner.

Gus is too weird to not have particular criteria for positions in his offense

It is amazing what a couple of months will do. Just a few months ago we saw articles praising Stidham and talking about what a terrible offense Gus ran and how it was a shame Stidham had to play in it.

Now, I have heard pundits talking about how great the Gus offense is and how Stidham was terrible at running it and did not know what he was doing.

See, I would completely disagree here, especially when it comes to the HB/TE position. At RB, I don't really see any clear consensus of "x" is an AU running back for Malzahn. Look at our RB depth chart right now. Not one of the RB's on our roster are really even remotely similar. I get having some variety and what not, but we basically have RB's for certain plays/situations. We don't really have a RB that can truly come in and spell Boobie and run the same offense (DJ Williams may be that if he gets healthy). Rarely have we ever had that.

My larger point there is that we rarely have true depth when it comes to a certain style of offense. We have a bunch of WR's that are very talented, but very few that really fit within the same mold and scheme. That has its pros and cons as you can do a lot more with the roster, but it also can really hamper you with a key injury or just missing on a recruit, as we've seen in the past. I've listened to a couple of Auburn people say the same thing about our recruiting strategy.

You are correct on the QB though. The one trait Gus probably values more than any is the ability to hit the deep ball. That and not turn the ball over. Running ability and what not are secondary to that.

I wonder if Gus is learning how to work the media, alumni and fans from Bruce. They seen a lot more connected in pasr year or so

From press conferences, events and quotes, Gus seems a lot more personable and lively. Much less of an antagonistic / robotic public persona

Following conditions I'd feel confident

- We win 10 including bowl game
- Losses on avg are ~14 pts or so
- Offense not sub200yd a trainwreck
- Bo Nix continues to get better/show promise
