This is exactly what I have heard. Chip Lindsey is actually a very good OC and prefers to run an air-raid type of offense and scores a lot of points.

But, Malzahn is making Chip Lindsey run a run-heavy game plan, which isn’t CL’s nature.

I was watching the game yesterday with the guy who told me that and in the 4th quarter before the comeback he said “Hey, this looks more like a Chip Lindsey offense.” And then, what do you know.... 14 points and some big offensive plays.

Gus needs to stay far away from calling offensive plays.

We shouldn't do this to ourselves. UGA is much better than us, and Alabama is going to smoke us. And it's in Athens and T'loosa.

Why? Chip isn't the head coach.

Yeah I hate the argument of who is calling plays. Gus is HNIC and needs to live by the sword and die by the sword.

Let’s get our OL fixed first and foremost before we keep worrying about play calls. Play calls are the most over rated aspect in the game of football because if they work then the coach is a genius and if they don't then he is an idiot. If only it was that simple.

It’s all about the same basics throughout history and doing them well: blocking, tackling, protecting the football and flat out executing these basics to perfection.

I am not debating that. I’m just relaying what someone told me because is matched up with what another poster heard.

IDGAF. I just want to get back to winning games.

Sparknotes of the convo?

Sorry, should have added it in. My bad. A lot of it was beyond my understanding of offense etc, so I'll do my best to intepret

- Gus is very hesitant to buy into air raid concepts, Chip has to basically prove a specific route on a play will be open

- Gus views air raid dynamic routes as multiple different plays, so it is near impossible to prove to Gus that the route will be open

- Chip spends hours post normal FB operations with Gus learning how Gus wants the game to be called, film/game prep

- Chip is the one calling plays since mid last year, he just has to choose Gus' plays

Supposedly Chip really likes Gus' run schemes. I don't think the "run-heavy" play calling tilt is the problem

I think the problem is that from an implementation standpoing, Gus refuses to let Chip run a

I have known Chip for a long time. This is not his offense. The plays he is calling are within a Malzahn-defined box, which limits things in more than one way.

This is basically what I heard the other day from someone who would know. The passing offense concepts look nothing like anything Chip Lindsey has run at USM or Arizona St.

Maybe Chip's offense wouldn't have worked, but it just isn't what we are seeing at AU

This aligns with Gus’s philosophy. He likes to keep things simple. Run four plays well against every defensive front than 25 plays that attempt to keep a defense guessing.

I don’t think Gus’s philosophy works in modern day football unless he has the RPO with a high quality athlete at QB.

Well, the Gus and Chip combo or whatever it is worked pretty well the second half of last year, even against some great defenses.

I think the problem is a personell problem more than anything.

Also along those lines of ne thinking it's a personnel problem, watch Oregon's presser after the lost last night. He was very blunt and honest. He said about half a dozen times they were not big and strong enough upfront on the offensive line. Said bama whipped them up front and they have to recruit bigger and stronger offensive linemen to have a chance against a bama.

Seems to me we are in the same boat and no particular scheme is gonna be all that great until we are bigger and stronger up front.

Similar situation at RB, but I also think Shivers should be getting at least 5-6 carries a game

This is just me guessing, but I think the main reason it’s not working it because everyone played a specific role (Davis is the screen guy, Slayton is going deep/back shoulder, etc). Once you figured out the role and that we weren’t going to shy away from it then we became very predictable. But I admittedly know nothing
