I dont know why people keep talking about this run.
Because the question is their speed not who is the better runner. Like I said there's a lot more to being a good runner than raw speed.

quote:

Johnson did not play with speed. His speed was a nonfactor.
Doesn't change his 40 speed. Agreed Thorne is the more effective runner.

quote:

Johnson was also not a 4.7 runner and that is me telling you that.
I'd bet he was legitimately 4.7-4.8 hand timed. Decisiveness with cuts, setting up blocks, reading blocks, and burst are all as important if not more important than 40 time for effectively running the ball.

For example - Corey Grant probably ran a faster 40 than Tre Mason but Tre was the better runner.

I agree but i dont care about this.

JJ was not faster than Thorne by any metric. Its simple as that. JJ probably was 4.8 and Thorne is faster and more elusive.

The link is there. That was at pro day, which is timed by NFL scouts not Auburn staff. JJ wouldn’t have gotten ran down with a 15-20 yard head start, regardless of how elusive he is.

How long do we think this NIL experiment will last given the astronomical amount of money some of these kids get? Not to ,mention when the women’s athletes drag Title IX into it. Plus all the upheaval with conferences and players. It doesn’t seem to be a sustainable thing to me.

In my eyes, the current NIL status is kind of a free for all. "Booster" organizations are allowed to throw as much money as they want at who they want. I wouldn't think NIL as it currently exists will go for longer than 5 years, too much naked capitalism leaking out - making everyone look bad.

With the NCAA monopoly ruling, I don't see the NCAA coming in and dictating rules to settle NIL - they were accused of price fixing by the supreme court

Maybe a lawsuit initiated by a university would go further, but I don't know.

Cameron Ward officially in the portal.

I really think that’s the one to watch.

EA Sports college football video game reportedly on track for summer 2024 release
Derek Peterson | 19 hours ago
EA Sports is developing a new college football video game for the summer of 2024 that figures to be a smashing success.

Speculation about a possible delay was put to bed on Thursday when The BrandR Group and OneTeam Partners announced they had reached a settlement in a lawsuit regarding the video game company. That agreement led to a statement from EA that read, in part, the company still plans to hit the Summer 2024 release window.

freestar
According to SBJ’s Michael Smith, the lawsuit was filed by BrandR earlier this year against EA Sports after EA contracted OneTeam Partners to facilitate group licensing for student-athletes in the upcoming video game.

BrandR, a competing agency that represents more than 50 schools, sued over the NIL deals that EA was offering to college football players, arguing that EA was violating the company’s contracts with schools and its exclusive group licensing rights for players.

A statement from EA Sports, shared by The Athletic’s Chris Vannini, stated the suit had no merit and the company was pleased to see BrandR withdraw its claims. The full statement:

“We are pleased that BrandR has decided to withdraw their claims without any payment from EA. We’ve been clear from the beginning that this suit had no merit. Our focus continues to be on directly licensing individual college athlete name and likeness rights through an opt-in program that will give college athletes the choice if they want to be in our game. We’re pleased to move on from these claims and look forward to delivering EA SPORTS College Football in Summer 2024.”

The last college football video game produced by EA Sports came out in 2013 — NCAA 14. Denard Robinson, the electrifying Michigan quarterback, was on the last cover.

Concerns over the use of student-athlete likeness led to the game’s end. When student-athletes received the ability to profit off their name, image, and likeness several years ago, EA Sports quickly announced a revival of the series.

The wait is nearly over.

Congrats to Thorne for representing Auburn next year with his dazzling speed.

He's in an odd situation with the PAC 12 dissolving. He would have stayed if the conference still presented marquee games but who knows what the situation will be. OSU and WSU merging with the mountain west seems likely, a big step down in exposure for a guy hoping to get some NFL interest.

Yea, didnt think about that. Just puts him in a bad situation since he had such a good season

High Quality transfer QBs aren't going to want to come here unless we can drastically improve our QRs and Oline

Unless we pay well over asking

Pro day is not set up by scouts they are setup by the school. That’s why the scouts bring their own stop watches.

Why are we continuing this argument? We need upgrades at most positions. We are a 6-6 team because of all positions. That’s why recruiting is of the highest priority.

In my opinion an upgrade at QB is behind upgrading the WR, DB, and DL rooms. Some will be done through high school but regardless of how highly rated some of the incoming recruits are they will still be true freshmen. The DB room scares me to death next year because of the inexperience.

That’s exactly what I said.

Good question, ask jang.

IMO, an upgrade at the most important position is needed. Or the others don’t matter.

Convincing Scott to come back is the key here. We need S more than CB. Our back up safetys sucked.
