Can you give me the pros and cons?

I have direct and actually thought about freezing the service after football. One of those have ESPN not sure if it's sling.

Sling has ESPN an SEC network, I'm in the same boat have direct TV but only watch about 12 channels

Ok. I knew there was one that had it.

I've had it, but I just cancelled it. My biggest issue is that the ESPN and SEC network buffers during games and is significantly delayed. I have a cable box in my living room and sling in the bedroom. During the game on Saturday, the sling broadcast was a minute or two behind cable. It's not a big deal to some people, but it was to me. Especially if you want to listen to the auburn broadcast or view social media.

My information is probably wayyy out of date, but--
Living in Australia in 2006-2007 I used a sling box to watch games. It was pretty primitive at the time, but at least I got to watch the games (albeit on a very small computer screen).
We had hooked to a friend's cable box in the States and it worked fine.
I personally like using the Roku--- it was the easiest way I could watch the Auburn Spring game live on the television this year.

I had the same exact issue. I ended up canceling it. That being said, you can use WatchESPN if you have sling tv and it should be more reliable. I just went back to my sketchy russian websites with crappy streams. It's free and I had much less issues with buffering or it just not working. If the service was more reliable I would gladly get it again.

The buffering, delay and overall freezing issues w/live content is unbearable. I have no doubt future generations of it will improve it... But this one is too flawed to be the sole 'cut the chord' investee in my opinion

Yeah, I've watched about half of our games through WatchESPN because it was more reliable than sling itself. I'll probably keep sling through November for our season then cancel it. It's pretty crappy quality overall. If they fixed the slowness and buffering issues it could be nice.

Ok, so watching ball games sucks, what about your standard stuff like cartoon network?

I use Sling and haven't had any issues since about the 3rd week of the season. I almost cancelled it due to issues before that, but decided to keep it since I could still watch games on WatchESPN. It's been very reliable to me recently.
It also has every channel that we actually watched when we had cable.

I use sling with no problems. Watched the Arkie game on sling.
Did not experience buffering problems.
Knock on wood.

I don't watch cartoon network, but we do watch HGTV on it. It's fine, but sometimes it takes a while to load. You have to weigh the pros and cons. Pros: cost, cut the cord. Cons: buffering, delay
It seems to work better on my Roku 3, which is connected directly to the ethernet cable. My Roku stick gets its signal via wifi, so the signal doesn't seem as strong.
A big pro for the Roku 3 is that the remote has a headphone jack, so you won't disturb your sleeping spouse.

This has been my experience as well. My guess is that this is their first year getting heavy demand for streaming on the Sling servers. I usually don't have trouble on channels other than ESPNs during live sporting events.
Hoping they can beef it up and work on their apps before next year's season. It really does save a bunch of money if you're willing to deal with the hiccups.

About how long does it take to load a normal channel like HGTV? I have cable but giving strong consideration to canceling it as soon as the season is over. How about local channels?

I have SlingTV. Most times the channels take a few second to load. The buffering issues can be a pain sometimes. Sling crashed during the beginning of TWD last night.
I've got the Extra spots package for football season. I watch the games on the ESPN app because it seems to run better that way for me.
I'll take the buffering issues to have $80.00 extra in my pocket every month and not have to subsidise 85 channels I'll never watch.
I'll drop Sling after football season is over.
BTW, it's really nice to have TCM back for a while. I missed the shite out of all those old noir movies.

It depends. Sometimes a few seconds, but sometimes I have to click on the Roku 'home' button, then go back into Sling to have it load.
As for local channels, you will need an HD antenna. Here in the Ham, I can pick up a bunch of local digital channels... all the local network stuff, plus some.
My goal was to cut the cord. I could do it if it was just me. Unfortunately, the wife gets very frustrated with having to switch between HDMI 1 and Antenna, then find the right app, then the buffering, etc. Happy wife, happy life, amarite?
Reluctantly, I'm back to Charter.

Thanks for the input folks....I just can't justify paying $70 for DirectTV when I only watch a few channels and figured some of y'all have used Sling.

Ha I just looked at the .gov website for antenna strength for different channels and I can get "moderate" strength for 1 local channel. Looks like I'm sticking with cable for the next 8 months til I move.
