Like I told you on page one. Feet is the difference in getting recruited or not when it comes to OL. Many have big bodies, few have big bodies with great feet.

At the Troy camp today, his measurements there was 6’5” 294lbs. He did really good today, the OL coach told him he did a great job, make a post on X tag him and he would follow my son on X.

The majority of the camps are in June so unfortunately looks like I’m done taking him. The high school coach is supposed to be taking them to some camps in July.

Out of nowhere Umass @TheCursiveU has liked some of his X post, it’s going to be an interesting fall. He has an offer from Fork Union Military Academy but it’s post grad school so I don’t count that one. Fun fact Eddie George and Plaxico Burress went to FUMA.

Pirate, Rocky Mountain and Fear the thumb-

Trying to get started in this confusing game as a total novice. My son aspires to play in college and who am I to say he can’t- probably more like Division 2 or lower is the target, but still.

He is a rising sophomore. Played varsity as a freshman.

So- after two camps and signing up “generally” with NCSA I feel like I am getting bombarded by them for a membership. So far I have just said no. They certainly make you feel like you are ruining it for your kid if you don’t get a premium membership. Geez. Anyway outside of having his coaches help make connections and continuing to go to camps are the socials really the next best thing with some elbow grease? Twitter isn’t complicated per se- nor is Instagram but what is the best strategy there- I see so much variety and mainly from kids who probably don’t have to market themselves. So, what’s the best thing to post? Follow the coaches or the teams? Are X/twitter handles on the team websites? What’s the next step for total dummies?

I've seen recruits post their phone number on the public socials. Dont do that. Just an email.

Best thing for getting eyes on your son may be to transfer to bigger schools.

I am willing to bet NCSA is just a money grab. My experience: none

Lots of these kids transfer to get more eyes. My son’s school is not even a small school but they lose players all the time.

If his team had all the same kids that he grew up playing with, they’d be in the hunt for a State title every year. They made the playoffs last year in spite of losses.

Do not pay NCSA, they will hammer you to pay but you need the free account , my son gets a lot of interest below the D1 level there. X is the way to go, post highlight videos and stuff there. X is where he gets DM’s and follows from D1 schools. The Southern Miss camp invite came by way of DM’s on X from a USM coach. Go to camps whether invited or not to get some eyes on him. I would go to a pay camp at first which can be a couple hundred dollars but after that I haven’t paid more than $50 for a camp, just beware of the money grab camps. I was totally green over a year ago and have learned a lot in a short period of time, hope this helps. I’m willing to give anybody advice from my experiences with recruiting.

I stand by Twitter/X. Have your son send game film highlights to every coach he can get to. Like it was said previously, it doesn't matter if youre interested in the school. It takes one coach to follow him to start the avalanche. Especially with coaches within which ever conference the original coach belongs.

Mega camps are bullshite unless you've been invited for free. Do not pay 700-800 to go for a day long event. Just about EVERY D1 school has a yearly prospect camp, and those are cheap. I believe we paid $50 to attend Indiana's, Indiana State's and Cincinnati's camps. The smaller schools he went to for free at the coaches requests.

My boy was is a nerd. Talent is good, but talent and grades are better. His grades helped with recruiting.

My boy ended up accepting a scholarship to play at Georgetown College in Kentucky. They're NAIA so it was only 90% but his grades got him the other 10% via other avenues. All that matters to him is he's playing at the next level. All that matters to me is he's getting a degree for free and I get another few years in the stands. And as a bonus, I don't even have to hide my beer while I watch this year.

You’ve gotten good advice so far. NCSA helped my daughter land a better opportunity but it is not necessary. You can get the info you need publicly, but just take more effort. Social accounts is a great idea.

Look up Alister Vallejo, friends of mine. Just 5-6 months ago I believe was unranked and no stars. Just early last year his name didn’t even pull up on the recruiting sites. He did attend some paid camps his freshman and sophomore year and he felt it helped with his game.

He also goes to a high performance training academy and has a personal coach. That really improved his agility, technique, hand work, explosiveness, etc. and if you go see he really took a large leap. My 5 nephews who all played D-1 didn’t do any of that but their talent and accomplishments got them noticed. I do not know if Alister used NCSA, I think no.

Common theme of all 6 and my daughter, exposure of some kind and then once an offer came in then others came in and camp invites. I would put a highlight video together and have an email put together. Hunt down coaches, and recruiting coordinators emails and send them out.

The only thing I liked about NCSA, is it kept that process orderly, access contacts easily, info on the needs of the school, and as busy as my daughter was with sports, schooling, sometimes working, social life, she spent 2-4 hours a week pushing out emails. She was a very good middle blocker with athleticism but 3-4 inches too short for the position at the D-1 level. I share that because if your child has talent, measurables, and stats you just need an avenue to get him exposure and social media is vast now. All coaches have an account(s). If your kid plays at a school that is known for funneling kids to college it makes it easier, and high school coaches with contacts.

Be realistic about your kids ability and what level, which you are. Lower level requires a little more work because they don’t have massive recruiting budgets. Also, your son is just a sophomore and he can always move that needle higher as he matures and grows, improves.

Yes NCSA is in business to make money but coaches from Low level D1 on down do use it and opened up doors for my daughter. You’re starting at a good time just going into his sophomore year. Wish you the best.

One final note, I did send my daughter to a top D1 camp I paid for twice. It didn’t help with any offers but her confidence level soared playing against girls from all over the country, learning some technique, and winning a couple of awards turned her confidence into beast mode. She made all state twice and was league mvp her senior year. She started playing VB in 7th grade. Like Pirate said, it gives you a few more years in the stands watching your kid play some more. That was priceless.
