It's a bit ironic but one of my very best fiends just asked me to be a reference for his green card. We figured it out we've been watching each others backs for over 35 years, and it was not his first one. He pays US taxes, has property, and been married to two SE women. He's Canadian, hockey crazy, and he'd kick your sorry arse thirty ways to Sunday over this issue. He like's who he is, he like's where he came from, and always an asset wherever he's at. As for paying back, his charitable contributions have been in both money and sweat. And it's unfortunate (and a crying shame) there's still people who will automatically assume good and bad by nationality.
And this guy what's not to like...
He's well spoke, been a great communicator, and he just wrote the most interesting and moving thread on this board today. As I sit here at 11 minutes to midnight. Thanks, for the update,.
You, will be missed.

Have a friend from India that went on a very similar journey. Just became naturalized after 24 years in the US. Hoping it all ends well for you and your family

Doesn’t take 25 years to get citizenship

He missed the US lottery by being born in Canada. My family fought wars for my freedoms many lost lives. My son ex military still works for the DOD. So frick off. And who cares if someone may or may not kick my arse doesn’t mean shite about becoming a citizen.
I said I wish the OP well but no works is good enough to just become a US citizen. It should take a long time. But no most don’t take 25 years. And if becoming a citizen of the US is your greatest desire then denounce your other citizenship. You can’t serve 2 masters.

The average naturalization process takes 18-24 months. However with the
shite show former administration I’m sure there is some sort of backlog currently but generally the average is 18-24 months.

Exactly and why some “take years”.
Like I posted above the average time is 18-24 months.

You also need a green card for at least 5 years before applying which puts it at 6.5 years at the earliest you can get citizenship (unless military). There are also residency requirements during the 5-year span and if you don’t adhere to then you have to start all over.
ETA: it can also take 5+ years to get a green card depending on the situation.

I know this doesn't fit into your narrative but the naturalized citizenship pathway takes longer than any presidential term. Especially if you go the visa - > green card route which is fairly typical and you've got the have money to pay for everything that comes up.
I don't mind all the requirements per say but the timelines have been screwed up for 30 years or so. Even longer if you were Asian trying to immigrate before 1965.

It's not a topic that gets a lot of play outside of illegal immigration and H1B visas, so I take it as an opportunity to broaden perspectives.

Nah. He’s right.
For all of the banging on about naturalization timelines the actual process from start to finish averages around a decade for most folks.

Good luck! It sucks when people do the right thing the right way but get screwed because of all the folks trying to cheat the system and just outright breaking the law. Hope all ends well,

I'm actually sad we are losing a fellow degenerate. Are there any other Aubies for the taking. Specifically one less mild- and willing to go out on a limb.
