Isaac Ukwu Quotes:
quote:

“It went great, meeting with Coach Roberts and Coach Freeze, it was a great time,” Ukwu said. “All of the facilities are amazing, I know they just had them finished in December. Yeah everything was great.”

quote:

“Their message was that they think I could be a big part of this time if I were to come here,” Ukwu said. “The family environment that they have going on here, the way the people support players at Auburn, alumni, the network, the history, it’s a lot. I never came and visited a school of this magnitude, so it was really cool.”

quote:

“Yeah, that’s the biggest thing honestly, all the glitz and glamor is cool, but that is the main thing,” Ukwu said. “If I can see myself playing there and I have the opportunity to go in there and be a contributing player. That is the biggest thing I have been honing in on with these coaches in the film room and every one I have been talking to. If I can come in there and play a lot of snaps.”

quote:

“I would say Ole Miss is another school I plan on visiting, and Missouri is another school I plan on visiting,” Ukwu said. “I’m trying to figure out my other visits, but those three are who I’m talking to the most. I’m also talking to Kansas and Cal. I plan on taking a visit there at some point in time. It’s a lot of schools, it’s chaotic honestly.”

quote:

“This is a very big decision for me,” Ukwu said. “I definitely need to do my due diligence and give these schools a chance to let me know how they feel like I can fit in their system and benefit myself. Especially going from a great situation that I had at JMU. I have to make sure I go into a situation that can really boost who I am and I can be of service to the team.”

quote:

“I definitely want to make a decision before summer work outs start,” Ukwu said. “Definitely before workouts start.”

I see some sites have Ukwu listed at 219 lbs, James Madison has him correctly listed at 260. Stats are good, but it is James Madison. And he missed two full seasons early in his career due to injuries, judging from the stats the last two years it certainly did not slow him down. Sure would help shore up the Edge room.

Good news is the new regime is doing a great job of correcting the issue and quite frankly is all I really care about at this point.

MSU QB Payton Throne entered the Portal this morning. J.Lee says that he's one to track as well. He's a grad transfer.

He’s going to be the top target for QB, imo.

MSU fans are glad to see him leave but he has experience in a good conference and had a solid 2021 with 3200 yards and 27 TD’s but slid a bit 2022. He doesn’t seem to be a running threat but has decent mobility. I think between Thorne and Thompson for a 1 year stop gap Thompson is the better choice if he is 100% healthy. But I wouldn’t be mad at getting Thorne at all if he’s interested.

I think that he‘s got a high enough floor. 2021 season shows he’s got some potential to tap into. Seems better than what we’ve got. Unlike Thompson, he’s healthy right now which is good

Just curious what others are thinking

We have 2 of the top, what, 10 QB coaches on our staff with Freeze and Montgomery? I think if they see something they like in a QB transfer we should be on board with it

Thorne was very highly graded in 2021. I think in general he has a better arm than Thompson, and probably most importantly much less concerns over health. I think he might also have two years of eligibility, but not 100% on that (even though he's a grad transfer).

Pink posted that Thornton will visit 4* OL Preston Taumua of Aiea, Hawaii probably around the time he goes to CA to visit 4* OL Paki Finau is his guess.

Auburn is working to get Taumua to OV and is optimistic that will happen.

It seems the two glaring issues that havent really been addressed with transfers like the others (oline, linebacker) is qb and wr. Robbie is a great runner but from what weve seen mediocre at best as a passer. Greiner is 100% unknown in game type situations. Finley is a basket case. There is no stand out receivers on the roster. Thompson and Thorne seem to both be good passers and possess some mobility. Grab either of them and a couple of receivers and it could move Auburn from a 6 win team to a possible 8-9 win team.
