I'm not going to complain about filling scholarships, especially if its just a one year player, I would honestly be shocked if he saw the field for us though (barring injuries of course).

Just looking at the his profile page he's 6'7 283.. I doubt he will be playing Jack at that size. That's more like SDE/small DT size. The 2 deep is basically set for DE and DT/NT.

Intriguing that we are using Thompson's official so early.

Regarding edge, I still dont understand why Riley has not moved there. He has the length, the size, the speed, and they say he is built like Adonis so I assume the strength. And we seem to be set in the linebacker room, at least better than edge.

As for this DE offer, I dont think we are going to find Lawrence Taylor in the portal, and its not a bad replacement for Frenchy, who only had one tackle per game in the five games he played. I know, I know, potential, potential my arse.

He has two years of eligibility IIRC. The rest of the stuff is just your interpretation. None of those schools are playing their season opener next week, and the Portal actually just opened - so what's the rush? Lots of schools haven't even played their Spring games yet. So there is actually not much incentive for 5-6 schools to just pick the same scrub player to offer at the same time if they want "a body". There's a former 5-star Edge from Washington who's done nothing in college that also entered the Portal and I don't see him racking up offers by comparison.

The more realistic scenario is that despite his limited production, teams actually see something that they think they can further develop. In this case the kid is ~6'7 270+ and he can run some, so he's a projection guy even though he's not "young".

I'm not suggesting that this is some amazing player, but even the NFL does this when they draft guys with limited/middling college production because they have measurables to project. If you remember last year we took a "body" in Marcus Bragg and he never had the offers that this kid just reeled in. So I think you're glossing over the fact that this guy has actual real teams supposedly after him.

If we got Cam Coleman and one or the other of Thompson and Ryan Williams, woosir, with a QB to boot my jimmies, they a rustlin.

Well he has seen our spring practice, he knows he could start, and he knows we have an offensive line. He can showcase his skills for the NFL. And it will show receiver recruits what our offensive scheme will look like with a competent pilot.

This is truly a one plus one equals three for he and Auburn.

The sports illustrated article is referencing the Locked on Auburn podcast so no sources actually verifying yet, one can hope.
