Honestly, my favorite time of recruiting.

I may or may not stir that pot. I take the 5th.

The controlling parent is a classic recruiting storyline. I bet most of them aren’t very accurate but it’s a fan’s right of passage to believe it anyways

If it’s my son, I could definitely see myself saying “yeah you’re not going there”. There’s no doubt in my mind some of these kids get caught up in the recruitment process and start making decisions based on the wrong things.

Yeah, I believe you take an active role and guide your kid. Help them learn from the experience and how to process choices. The only time I would say you won’t go there, is if you just know it’s a train wreck.

Once you get to a top 3 then you have done all the homework and leave that final decision to your son/daughter.

Agreed, and I’m sure it happens, but not at the rate some may believe.

My daughter chose the college she would play volleyball in even though 2 out if her four offers were within 2 hours of our home. She chose 9 hours away in another state. It made her more committed even through some challenges because she did the work to select it. She couldn’t say, well dad or mom forced me to go here.

I have 7 nephews that have or are playing D1 baseball or football. Not one time did my brothers tell them where to attend.

We have a brief amount of success in recruiting and the melting is back. We will win some and lose some. Let’s at least see what happens first before the melts begin

My dad gave me the “you’re not doing that” talk a few times and he was 100% right every fricking time

One was a car loan. Perfectly normal thing to do but he was vehemently against it. Never had one because of it. Another was a getting a dog when I was a freshman at Auburn. Also right. Had zero business then signing up to take care of another living being. A couple more I won’t discuss

Yeah, I have done the same, but I have also let my kid make their choice knowing it would not end well because 1. Money was not a sizable amount, 2. They wouldn’t let it go and insisted it’s what they wanted, 3. It was a good lesson to learn early on with nominal loss that hurts but not devastates them.

Not recruiting related but a great story about parenting. Burt Reynolds said he was marrying the girl he had dated from high school and his dad said not to, not for his sake but the girl's cause Burt was such a hound. He did, and he did, and he got a divorce quickly and was pulling up to the house just dreading hearing his father say I told you so. Said his dad met him at the front door and Burt started with "I was wrong you were right".

His dad said son why dont you get us a beer and come out back Ill tell you about the times I fcked up.....then he hesitated, turned around and said.....son youd better bring the whole six pack this could take a while.

May he rip great story. Now has KJ announced yet

My youngest son called me a couple weeks after his undergrad was complete. He says "dad I am going to join the army" I asked him about Officer Candiate School and he replied no I am enlisting. I suggested he come home and let's discuss. He said sure but I signed the papers yesterday. Lol. Turned out alright in the end but damn.

FSU made a huge late push for him somehow. If the NIL deal from FSU is what I heard it is, I 100% understand why he’s going there.

I'm assuming that there is a bidding war going on right now. Can't trust anything until he signs really.

For the love…

We are all throwing money around. There are no excuses other then if he chooses some other team then he chooses another team. Sure some teams are gonna value one player over another. And some kids are gonna go to the highest bidder, some will still go who they grew up cheering for, and some will go where they feel they should go and have the best relationships.

First it was the Dad, now FSU brought a bigger bag. Just stop. You realize the subscription sites just post random carrots on a stick in these situations for the clicks right?
