Okay, Melvin Ray or Ricardo Louis, who finishes with 1,000 yd + season?

All the talk about our WR depth has me thinking. Why is no one talking about Burton. Kid balled in the ADay game and looked great.

Burton is gonna turn some heads but Im a Marcus Davis guy all the way.

I think Burton is a year away. We got 3 senior WRs & 2 JR ones ahead of him that are all talented. Next season after JJ goes #1 & Sean White takes over I think we see plenty of Burton and Tony Stevens

This is Ricardo Louis' year, bro.

Duke Williams will, of course, be the unanimous #1 target if he can stay healthy and out of trouble, but Ricardo Louis is going to break out. After him, I think Melvin Ray will be the #3 target.

Burton a-day gams really impressed me. That guy looks/play taller than he is.

I think Jason Smith could sneak up into the top group given his versatility.

Just watching Gus' presser. He mentioned that Jovon held onto the ball well today. I wonder if fumbling issues is why he is third string right now.

Man, I love Ricardo, but the guy has stone hands. You can only coach that so much, hands are natural. Melvin Ray actually good hands, can make big plays in space just like Ricardo, and is all-around a more complete WR than Ricardo.

This is how I see the roles of our top guys working out:

#1- Duke
#2 Melvin Ray
slot- Marcus Davis
#3- Jason Smith
deep threat/sweeps- Ricardo Louis.. this is a very specific but very important role that I think Ricardo's skills fit perfectly into. He'll hit occasional home runs, but he'd mostly be a decoy. Just the threat of him hitting those home run plays would be enough to keep the defense honest and open up space for the rest of the offense. Think of Sammie and how he'd bust the seams out of secondaries. Even though most of those were incomplete the defense still had to always pay attention to that threat. Don't respect that for even one play and it could be the one that actually gets caught and taken for an easy 70 yrd TD.

This is a fan myth. He has dropped a few passes, but has caught the majority of the balls thrown his way. Rico is my breakout player this year on offense (outside of JJ and Roc)

He's dropped enough to where it's been noticed as a problem by everyone. I can think of several occurrences where he dropped the ball with nobody around him

the passes that stick out to most are the dropped passes one the opening drive of the Iron Bowl and NC game. Both of which were severely underthrown and off target. Add in the ball he didnt run under in the Iron Bowl as well for good measure

I am pulling for him, but dude has dropped enough passes to be called "hands of stone" for a reason.

The one in the NC game was by no means a good pass, but it hit him right in the hands with no defenders within 10 yards of him. He has stone hands.

Now that being said, JJ is much more accurate than Nick and throws a much more catchable ball, so I imagine alot of our stone hands WR will improve a good bit with him throwing.

You've identified his other weakness here. He might have a route running problem. Seems like a lot his drops and misses come from him not being in the right spot. He's a dynamic athlete, but I've always thought he didn't look very natural playing WR. Almost looks awkward running routes and catching balls compared to other guys.

A lot of people don't realize just how important route running is for WR. It can be the skill that sets you apart as elite (Jerry Rice, Amari Cooper) and poor routes can also hold back an otherwise elite WR. Idk if you guys remember Chad Jackson from Florida in 2005, but he's a good example here. Better athlete than Ricardo and he good hands. 5* top WR recruit out of HS, 2nd round draft pick out of Florida. Had every physical gift you could ask for at WR, but because he couldn't run routes for shite he struggled to get playing time in the NFL and was off active roster after 4 seasons.

he should have caught that pass in the National Championship game.

How the hell do you drop that pass in that situation.

Im pulling for him. He is very fast and can get open. We need that for our deep threat

Jason Smith is no shrimp either. He's not just a slot guy. He can line up out wide, no problem. He's a solid 6', maybe 6'1 and almost 200 lbs.
