Cleared for practice/full contact =/= fully healthy.
Back injuries are tricky and Kozan missed a lot of workouts and conditioning with the injury. Factor that in with whatever pain he's not going to tell anyone about and you've got a true wildcard.

I hope one of these punters separates themselves and does at least a decent job this year
I would kill to have Steven Clark on this team.
Also, from what I've heard Gholson is okay. They're just being careful with him.

As Jones pointed out, it isn't like Kozan had a ACL injury. A lot of guys come back from torn ACLs and such "even stronger" as the rehab builds better auxiliary muscle strength in addition to getting back to strength. In today's world we know a town about ACL tears and how to fix them. We aren't as well versed with back injuries
Kozan (according to JGT) was effectively out of any meaningful S&C program that would aid on field performance for ~9months and likely still has limitations on how hard he is allowed to push in the S&C
Considering his weakest part of his game was strength, expecting him to come back at All SEC form is asking a lot

As someone that has had back surgery for a herniated disc I can vouch for the above. And once you start having back problems it never really goes away. I had surgery in 2011 and now here I am in 2015 starting to have issues with it again.
Hope every works out well for Kozan though.

I've heard that Jordan Diamond is finally healthy and showing some progress too.
So between Kozan, Smith, Dampeer, and Diamond, hopefully we'll be OK at the OG position.

Had a disk removal/fusion in my lower back in 1990.
In 2007, I had to have two disks removed and fusion in my neck.
Back surgery sucks.

No one ever has one back surgery. I have two bulging disks in my lower back. It was either have surgery or do therapy every day for the rest of my life. Chose therapy.

Danzey wasn't all that bad. He had missed assignments but overall was solid when he actually was engaged as a blocker.
If Golson can captain the OL and be good, Danzey will be more than serviceable at OG. I would prefer a healthy Kozan but I'll settle for 4/5 good OL + Danzey

Muschamp presser notes
quote:
On the first scrimmage: Thought the defense did well. Had 12 missed tackles on 90 plays. "We did not play the run very well." Says the defense gave up five "big runs" and over four yards per carry
"We have to do a better job playing the run."
Says the coaches are putting situational
On if he was surprised in Carl Lawson's performance on Monday: "He's a fast-twitch, body quick guy. ... He's a good football player and he's been involved in thud situations when we've been up."
On the freshmen corners: Says they've exhibited skills to show they can play in the SEC
On rotating freshmen in with the first-team defense: "We have. ... We're constantly mixing, matching personnel."
On accountability in rotation of personnel: "Guys that produce stay first team, guys that don't go to second and third."
On if there's a better feel for the third safety: "Not right now."
On DaVonte Lambert: "It's always tough, more than anything, confidence (in returning from an injury). ... There's a little bit of a timidness when you go out there." Says Lambert got 20 plays in scrimmage.
On top performers in scrimmage: Montravius Adams, Dontavius Russell, Cassanova McKinzy, Justin Garrett, DaVonte Lambert, Maurice Swain and Carl Lawson
On Tim Irvin: "Tim has some really good days ... he certainly has the ability." Says it's about consistency for Irvin and he'll help the defense, but how much remains to be seen
On Raashed Kennion: Good first step in pass rush, has to improve in run game
quote:
Muschamp "we're going to get our best two inside LB's on the field" says right now Justin Garrett and Cassanova McKinzy playing better
quote:
Muschamp says that Stephen Roberts has done some good things at safety, including an interception and several plays in goal line
quote:
Muschamp adds that @darrellw_ Darrell Williams is a player that continues to do good things at LB. Same with @ByronHawkStar99 up front
quote:
Austin Golson joining us now. Was back at practice, should be back to 100 percent tomorrow. Said he was banged up w/ a lower-body thing
quote:
Golson tried to get at least 50 snaps every day in the summer. Feels very comfortable with how he has progressed there.
quote:
Auburn center Austin Golson said he hasn't kept in touch with coaching staff at Ole Miss.
quote:
Golson says he is comfortable with the pace and speed of this offense. In Malzahn's offense, the center does dictate tempo.

Sounds like Justin Garrett may take Kris Frosts spot

Muschamp mentioned McBryde a lot too. Frost will start but there will be a ton of rotation

Glad you could avoid it. I couldn't had done physical therapy for a year before the doctor finally said I could either take a super pain killer shot that may kill the sciatic nerve pain for good, may kill it for a year, may work for a month, or may not work at all and I could only have the shot every 6 months. Or I could have surgery and get it fixed. I picked surgery. It was great until I changed units and the higher ups were all about retardedly long runs (6-7 miles 3 times a week) and that's what triggered the return of my pain.
Anyway sorry to derail the thread. Anyone else having wet dreams about Carl Lawson taking the heads off of QB's this year?
