Excited about Braden "DRAGO" Smith
The freshman offensive lineman, rated the No. 1 guard in the nation out of high school by Scout.com, has plenty to learn -- but it's his imposing, 6-foot-6, 299-pound frame that has coaches excited about the possibilities of him playing guard or tackle in his first season.
Perhaps the proper gauge on Smith's potential is center Reese Dismukes' take. The senior is still learning the names of newcomers (he gives them nicknames), and smirked recently while retelling the newcomers' first run during a summer workout. "They didn't look too good," the senior said.
"I know we've got Braden Smith and he looks like the Russian off Rocky IV," Dismukes said. "Drago or whatever his name is. He looks like that guy and he's only a freshman."

It seems that Arky will be having evening and night practices starting tonigh, at least for the first week.
You would think that they would want to get ready for Alabama heat in August at 3:30.

Duke is going to be our best receiver this year. He has hands like glue.
We need to have a guy or two step up to give us some quality depth at DE.
This will be the first time in a while where our kicker and punter are team weaknesses.

I agree, Duke is going to be our Emory Black / Darvin Adams. Mr. Consistent except way more athletic than those 2 guys.

I'm worried we are going to have a couple moments this season where we miss Parkey and Clark.

quote:We might (probably will). But the last time we lost a reliable punter and kicker, we replaced them with Clark and Parkey. Both Hutchinson and Carlson were at the top of their positional rankings, so we'll see how they do.

Carlson looked ok at A-Day, Hutchinson didn't look too good. But that was their first time playing

That's what it seemed like on A-Day. But that's not always telling

I want to hear some news about Andrew Williams. Hopefully he can step up at DE with Lawson going down.

AUBURN, Alabama -- Austin Golson, the offensive tackle who transferred in from Ole Miss and has to sit out this season, was not in pads or taking part in practice during the open viewing period of today's practice.
He was still dressed out in shorts and jersey, but no "shells," the shoulder pads and helmets Auburn is wearing today.
Golson, a 6-foot-4, 300-pound sophomore who started at right tackle for the Rebels last season at times, had been working with Auburn's second team in early practices.
An injury to Golson doesn't affect Auburn's depth chart for the season due to his status as a transfer this season.
Auburn had a big group of punt returners back during practice: Marcus Davis, Robenson Therezie, Jonathon Mincy, Quan Bray, Markell Boston, Stephen Roberts, Gray King and Rudy Ford all took punts back there.
Corey Grant and Ricardo Louis were the only return men back on kickoffs.
Josh Holsey is Auburn's answer at boundary cornerback, but it looks like he'll also move inside and play some safety in sub-packages.
Auburn was working on a few defensive-back heavy formations -- possibly the dime -- at the beginning of practice.
Representatives from the New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills were present at Auburn's practice today.
