That is a weird way to do it
Probably some rules/regulations that they have to do according to state law.
I don't know.

Coach, Steele would be way worse than tot.... It would be epic coach fail of the century.
I can only imagine what the media would do with that hire?

Oregon Board Meeting for a Contract Extension
Just think if our coach was discussing a contract extension during a conference championship week.

I mean if he extends this week, that pretty much confirms we offered him.
So there’s the bright side. Plus we might back into Napier anyways

Steele would be a Doug Barfield type hire.........and you paid $21.45M to do it.

I don’t think you can criticize Mario unless you have a list of candidates you would rather have.
I am absolutely not criticizing him. I have just asked what has he done that makes everyone think he is worth 30 million dollars we could be spending? I honestly dont know a lot about him. I know what I read about is back ground.
But, the little I have watched him, he has not been a slam dunk for 30 mil. The game against us, he made coaching decisions that hurt his team. He has some terrible loses this year. Everyone thinks he made Oregon. Thats just not true. Other than a few down years, they have been a top 10-15 program for a long time. In all honesty, Kelly built that program up and gave it is notoriety. Taggart took it off the map and Mario has it in the right direction
But coaching at Oregon at a time where the Pac 12 is total shite is a far cry from taking over the reins of the Auburn Tigers in the SEC West right now. A huge difference.
I actually hope we get him because he seems to be the #1 target and he wins like a mofo. Im just questioning why he is the #1 guy?

University of Oregon just announced an ad hoc BOT meeting for Thursday at 10:00 am Pacific for the purposes of discussing a football coaching contract.
So, Cristobal is unlikely our guy.

I cant wait for Steele to tap Noel Manzone as OC.

Not just the media. If you think I was critical of Gus, you got something coming when it comes to Steele. His collective defense got worse as Muschamp’s players started moving on. He wasn’t the biggest problem but a problem nevertheless.
I’m not ashamed to melt over the hire either. It stinks. It may be the worst hire in the world given what we had to pay Malzahn to leave. Some of the frustration at Steele isn’t even his fault( aimed at administration and BOT instead,) but because he is now the heavy front runner my thinking of Steele has completely changed. That’s just the way it is for me. He will be starting out with less talent than Gus and Chizik, and he at his age restricts any imagination of him being involved in our 5 year plans. In other words he is a bridge hire at best.

We paid $21 million to get rid of Gus. We would have paid Gus $28 million to stay. Savings $7Mil

I do believe we'd be better off hiring a G5 guy like Napier or Chadwell and letting them build the program for five years completely free from booster interference. Could work out like Butch Johnson at UT, or like Urb at UF, or most likely somewhere in between (like Dye at AU).
But naming Kevin Steele HC would be the equivalent of implementing the Fearless Freep "white flag" strategy for the AU football program.
