Napier came straight out and said he didn’t accept the job because of too much h involvement and limited staff hiring.

You saying he’s lying?

I've been saying that from the start. Look at the SEC landscape and tell me how we are going to compete with everyone else without a big name!

I am already happy for Gus

Gus will probably take next season off. Spend time with the family. Could take 2 paths of watching some different teams spring and fall practices in college or NFL squads. Bang heads with folks outside his orbit.

Then come back in '22 as a hot commodity for teams ready to make changes after COVID. Be weird seeing Gus at U of Texas and whipping arse.

Dude, Urban Meyer was from then Group of 5 Utah when he came to Florida and won championships.

We don't need a "big name." We need a good coach.

Edit: and he was only there for two years! He only had four years of head coaching experience (two more with Bowling Green.)

Have green apologize on behalf of our idiot BOT, hire Napier or Cristobal for $1mil more, give them full control for 3-4 years.

Fire them if they don’t give results, rinse repeat. This shite isn’t complicated.

Ya'll remember when Muschamp was the hot name and can't miss coaching prospect. Coach in waiting and all that bs. I member.

Relax fellas. There isn't a "savior" out there. We will end up with a good coach. Time will tell if he's a Dye or Tater Tot.

I hope they’ve actually turned the reins over to Greene and he takes another run at Napier. Pay the man and let him hire “his” staff. Not the backstabbers that were already there. Our coaching staff needs a purge

It's not that Auburn isn't a quality job. It is. But it's a hell of a challenging job, especially right now. "Hey, come to Auburn. You'll get to recruit against, and play against, Alabama, Georgia, and LSU every single year. Can't go to any championships without going through them. You'll also have to answer to various meddling boosters and Trustees, and it'll never be clear who's your real boss. Also - we'll tell you who you can hire."

Auburn is the "best open job" in terms of prestige, but not in terms of current situation.

Boys, we may have just fired the best coach out there who is willing to put up with the shite -- and paid a cool 21 to do it. I'm not saying he didn't need to go, but the longer this shitshow goes on, the less confident I am that we're getting an upgrade.

You think they would have realized by now their way isn't helping Auburn win.

They don’t care. Auburn football to them is a hobby and they can spend a frickload of money on it to have fun with their hobby.

They cared enough to fork up $21 million to appease the fans.

Agreed. Nobody knew who he was prior to taking the Florida job. No major bowls, mediocre record, etc

Just put the HC up for a god damn social media fan vote. I bet we collectively hire someone in a more competent manner than these dumbasses.

What? don't be crazy. Urban was the hottest coach out there. His Utah team went 12-0. Some considered them to be a BCS team ahead of Auburn.

Please circle back to Napier and give him autonomy and whatever $ it takes. Let's get this done AG!

Urban's daughter is married to Steve Dennis' son who is currently the Ohio St qb coach. Dennis is retired back in AU. Offer Urban the job with his son in law as OC and future head coach as long as Urban stays 4 years and sets everything in motion.
