When you get paid top 5 money, you're expected top 5 results. In the SEC alone, there have been 4 different coaches to make the playoffs.

USA Today has Gus’s salary as the 5th highest in the SEC when looking at total compensation. And that’s about, on average, where he’s been in the SEC

Your point is still valid, of course. This isn’t a counter to it and I’m not supporting Gus here, I just think that we can move past the contract at this point and justify firing him for being average

Saban, Eaux, Kirby, and Jimbo while at FSU.

Regardless, you're arguing with Jville. Facts don't matter to him.

And yall wonder why the board goes dead when games aren't being played. Here's a perfect thread example.

If you ask me I think South Carolina made a mistake. They’re not going to be contending for championships no matter who is coaching any time soon. Auburn has a better program but you know, I think getting through the pandemic should still be commanding all attention of the sports world.

I guess beating Auburn is not a career saver these days...

If you look at Muschamp's record with Fla and USC, he's just not done anything. And his last 3 years he has been avg or below. From what I read the fans really started to be very apathetic, and that Muschamp was never showing a consistency for winning.

So there are 4 HCs in the SEC that have been to the playoffs is not a fact? The Gus suckers are the ones who don't like facts staring them in the face.

Any one can pull a random stat to try to prove their opinion.

Muschamp is/was 28-30 over all and 17-22 in the SEC.

Gus is 66-33 overall and 37-25.

If you can't see the difference that's on you.

Look, I'm as disgusted with Gustav as anyone here, but this is a stupid metric. The CFP has only been around for 6 years.

How about this: how many HCs in the SEC have ever coached a team in a NC game? Merely extending it back one season before the playoffs and you have to include Gus in that number.

Gustav is responsible for a shitty record vs our rivals, some bad losses (including to HCs who have been fired, like Boom) and recruiting failures along the LOS - but this 'fact' is meaningless. If you don't think so, ask Mark Helfrich or Mark Dantonio.

I've got time today.

1: you're absolutely correct, USCe and Auburn are not equal.

2: yes, four coaches in the SEC have taken their teams to the playoffs. Malzahn is not one of those coaches. But, you and the other mush mouthed fricks on this forum conveniently leave out the fact that the playoffs started a grand total of one year after Gus was hired at Auburn. In a year, in case you forgot, Auburn played for the national championship.

3: We are all frustrated with Gus. But, objectively speaking, the program is in a better place now than it has ever been.

So, maybe some of y'all should stop being insufferable c u nts. There's a lot of folks that love Auburn, and talking Auburn football, that would rather not deal with the endless bullshite that y'all provide.

It would be retarded to fire a 4-2 coach during this covid fiasco. Yes, I know we shite the bed against Carolina.

People overestimate the buyout:
quote:

$21.45 million after 2020 season. $16.2 million after 2021 season. $10.87 after 2022 season.
$5.475 after 2023 season.

Waiting until next year to fire Gus to save only $5 million is stupid. If you really want to save money - you wait one more year and fire him after 2022.

In the meantime, our recruiting will fall to around 20th in the country and we will be looking at a Tennessee/FSU type rebuild.

The reason Auburn has maintained “spots” of success is by being proactive and firing coaches who are not trying anymore. Bowden had mentally quit, Tubs was focused on family issues, Gene C. had lost the team’s support, and now Gus is too pig headed to change.

We can’t afford not to fire him. We have nowhere to go but down. These players deserve better.
