Players motion for their sub all the time. The punt was pivotal in the sense that we were playing awesome in the next play is pivotal kind of way. The punt was not pivotal in any other way. More of a next man up deal.

Dawg, if I'm the coach the last thing I want on a punt return with the game literally the line is for the fricking backup who hasn't seen a football in ages back there trying to field it.

The player motioned for his substitute? Uhhh - again, unless he is HURT, he is the starter and is tasked with doing his job if he is told to get on the field.

What the hell are we even talking about here? This isn't flag football at the YMCA. What, it's 4th and goal with the game on the line and the QB motions for his backup because he's a bit parched and the coach just goes along with it?

Ironically, I could say the same thing to you. If Scott was winded then it was best for him to be out, and it's part of the norm for the players to insert themselves and take their selves out. It isn't Scott's fault that he is the only one that can catch a punt, and it's not like the team carries out their team pretending like Scott is the only guy that can catch the punt.

Just to be clear I am all for hating on Freeze for letting Koy be out there, but hating on Scott, no, I don't get that.

Not on Keionte... this is why you don't have some 3rd stringer who plays 0 snaps in the 2 deep on important special teams roles... they come in cold and frick it all up. Guys get dinged up - twisted ankle or whatever, get the wind knocked out of them, get gassed... it's not YMCA football which is why this is a thing. Guys tap themselves out of games for a play or two ALL THE TIME and it's part of football - every unit knows who the 2 deep is and subs fluidly.

Game is on:

(1) Koy Moore - you have to secure that catch... you just have to. Such a huge critical error. Kid got a chance to step up and play a tiny role in the biggest game he'll ever play in and he just face plants. Feel bad for him but he's anti-clutch

(2) Final defensive play call - just can't happen. Such a poor play call I can't believe it. The call was like Bama was on the 50 and not on the 30... you can put a ball from the 30 on the rope when you get 6 seconds. They rushed 2 and those guys didn't even really rush...

the truth of the matter is.......he rushed nobody.

He sent one to stand on the right side. One to the left side. He had one stand in the middle. I guess he wanted to keep Milroe in the pocket........on 4th and goal from the 31.

He couldn't stop Bowers when everybody in the stadium knew the ball was coming to him.

He couldn't stop NMSU with 12 on the field.

Now this BS.

We have a talent gap. We also have a gap in coaching ability.

Catching a wobbly punt 50 yards downfield with 11 dudes running full speed at you is not as easy as it looks.

That’s why you don’t allow brick hands back there. And if the coaches are allowing kick returners to sub themselves out — where we are literally getting the ball back in our possession — then there are some some supreme flaws in the coaching staff. Coaching is a dictatorship not a democracy.

Var Johnson should be back up punt returner.

It may have knocked bama out of the playoffs anyway for the poor showing against a team that lost to New Mexico.
