I can't imagine any high functioning, successful person from any walk of life taking that perspective.

And a well rounded athletic program. This past year was fun with football/basketball/baseball all making the playoffs. Our academics are better than ever. Downtown Auburn is awesome and growing.

Gus has shown that his floor is ~8-4. Now go take a look at Tennessee, Texas, and FSU and let me know what you find.

I think Gus deserves another 2-3 years with Nix at the helm. If he can't get above the 8-4 and the same problems persist, then, yes it is time to move on. But he has recruited above average (except OL), kids stay out of trouble, and wins most of the games he supposed - hence the high floor.

That’s somewhere near his average. His regular season floor is 6-6

Yeah, we went 7-5 literally last year with an experienced QB who now plays for the New England Patriots.

If he truly had an 8-4 floor and we hadn't lost to Tennessee last year and then maybe flip Arkansas and Georgia to wins in 2015 then I think everyone would feel a whole lot better about him.

Yeah, I think some folks here are confused by the term 'floor'

From what I've been hearing, he's lost the fanbase. Every Auburn fan I know, wants him gone. I know someone who sat in a luxury box at the Ole Miss game. I asked this person what was the chatter from those there. Some very influential people were in agreement that Gus was not getting it done and did not see improvement in the foreseeable future.

Lawd have mercy. I knew this would bring out the hyenas. How about this: Gus Malzahn's floor is an above average SEC West program.

We should not be content with above average. Above average will not cut it long-term and will get you fired eventually. However, by firing him now, it is more likely than not we would be a Texas, Tennessee, FSU, Florida with McElwain (and possibly Mullen) than an LSU or Georgia.

He has hitched his wagon to Bo Nix. If he can't develop him into an elite QB that has us competing at an elite level, then he will be fired. I'm fine giving him the opportunity to do that.

He's in his 7th season. Do you see Auburn progressing or regressing? Simple question.

To be fair, I think this team is significantly better than last years team. So in a sense, we are progressing.

I see us as about the same as in previous years. Our recruiting is on par with previous years, our record, etc.

We've regressed on Offense and have progressed on Defense. It remains to be seen if he can improve the O. If he can't, he gone.

OL is bad, and will probably be worse next year.

Forced to start a true freshman, because, apparently, he had no one else better to plug in after a 2-year starter left.

Calls for pulling guards on the goal line, against a goal line defense.

Calls 50 yard bombs plays on 3rd and 4 with the game on the line.

Has had multiple delay of game penalties coming out of timeouts, and a start of the 2nd half.

Starting QB throws 3 ints and went 11-27 in a game that was still within reach. Does not give the backup any playing time, even though he stated the QBs were "1A & 1B".

I can do this all day......

If by "team" you mean the defense, I would agree. But the offense is significantly worse. Our running game has been anemic, and QB play is downright awful.

This was clear as day "coach speak."

I'm not certain the OL will be worse next year. We can't run the ball inside against quality opponents and we don't protect well on 3rd & long.
Bo will be better or we will bring in a grad transfer..
Schedule does set up a little better.
I need to see this season play out though before I'm ready to call it quits on Gus.

I mean what I said. The team is better this year than it was last year.

If we have a Wille Taggart situation next year, which I can realistically see, how do you think the following years are going to be?

If Nix gets better, and I don't really see how he could get much worse, his line will be inexperienced and probably not as talented as the bunch we have this year.

The defense will not be near as good as this year's D. We are losing our entire DL and our best LB.

That being said, it looks like this year will seem like the good 'ol days compared to next year. Gus will be shown the door, and someone else will have to come in and pick up the pieces. It will take a while for whoever takes the job, to get this program righted. Meanwhile, we continue to add to the streak of losses to our rivals.

I've seen no evidence of a Gus team being able to fall off like that. Zero.

Like we did with Russel Wilson and Bryant Kelly?

Remind me, who ended up starting when we missed on those guys? How did NE Patriot QB, Jarrett Stidham progress under Malzahn?

It's almost like the Gus defenders have no ability to look at historical context and make a conclusion. It's all "feels".

Agree on Gus development of QB's. This is more my confidence in the kind of kid Bo is than it is anything with Gus. He's gonna take it on himself to get better.
