The first step is admitting you have a problem...

I do not believe we could upgrade. I believe we need to be patient and see if the guy, you know, gets better as he gets experience. If he doesn’t, we will have shown that we won’t fire someone without giving them a fair shake. You don’t have to agree with me, it’s ok. That’s how I feel.

You can show with basic stats how he is regressing in his 7th season.

“We play in the best conference in college football.
It’s fast and physical.
We’ve got to get our edge back. No doubt.
Tough schedule. Start to finish. Got Oregon, SEC and everything that goes with that.”

You can do anything with stats if you choose to. Were 7-2 with one of the top five hardest schedules in the country with our two losses being against top 10 teams on the road.
8-5 is what most people expected due to our schedule and now 8-5 looks like our basement with 10-2 being the roof. The melt is embarrassing and hurts our recruiting.
Corrected ceiling for basement.

If you were honest with us we also expect 8-5 because of our HC and tendency to have 8-5 seasons, too.

But then I see this and assume this whole post is a joke.

A message board poster isn't hurting recruiting. Running an offense that generally is assumed to not produce players capable of transitioning to the next level is the single greatest hinderance to recruiting. I could care less about the NFL, but our coach refused to commit to recruiting 2 or 3 freakishly talented running QB's and churning out NFL RB's and OL's that reaped the benefit of the pressure a running QB puts on a traditional defense.
I've have been quoted as saying 8-4 or 9-3 with our schedule assuming our offense looks serviceable is acceptable. The talent on our team and salary packages of our staff should put a reasonable offense on the field every week. That's the issue that should be considered more than record, because as has been mentioned stats can be manipulated.
9-3 LSU 2018 isn't nearly as bad as this Auburn team if we manage to get to 9-3 in 2019, the stats are the same but the trajectory of each program from that snap shot in time is significantly different.

So basically we have become the Mississippi schools?
Expecting 4-5 losses a year?
The pro Gus fans are cucks. I’m 100% sure another coach can get us a 7-5 average. No need to hold onto Gus for that

It's not the numbers of wins and losses. It's how the wins and losses occur and to whom they are happening.
Sitting on a too thin lead for a win sucks - especially when those subs could have been learning how to score and not just run the clock out four yards at a time.
And it really sucks when that thin lead vaporizes, as the other team finally goes to the air in the fourth (because they have to) and the clocks goes bye bye... and it really really sucks because it's all too damn common.
And it also sucks to loose to your rivals over and over again. And it sucks big time to only have one trusted RB or one trusted QB or one trust anything . And finally it S-U-C-K-S (in capital letters) to waste this years D.
I'm not ready to see him go because the season ends 7-5 or 8-5 or 9-4 or 10-3; rather how he got there.

Yeah, and if our offensive head coach would be having any type of success this year on his side of the ball, and showing he can put together a decent game plan, we would be undefeated. We have the best defense in college football. Too bad it’s been wasted.
We’re seeing the same results every year. Predictable play calling, no adjustments to game plan, simple receiving routes, and a QB that doesn’t seem to be improving.
I’ll be hoping he shows something in the last couple home games against two really good teams, but I’m not going to be expecting much.
