Usually when you have different personalities people call you crazy.

Maybe. I just want someone analysising this without emotion. UT hasn't played a meaningful game in 15 years due to their revolving door. Using Saban as a baseline is not fair to anyone. If you look at the numbers, Gus is the only coach who has had succes against him.

Grandad,

Saban has self awareness. Arthur Gustavo Malzahn does not.

I agree with Lanier on a lot of that. I also agree with you that Gus’ biggest fault is that he lacks self awareness and awareness of what he needs to do to have a successful offense. Go get a duel threat QB and recruit an o-line. These high rated WRs are nice, but that’s not what’s going to put this offense over the top.

Yep I agree with BOTH of ya on that front. It's not who we are. We have lost our identity. Who in the world knows why besides Gus. Just baffling how he goes away from what works well, not only changing the entire offense but in games he does exactly the opposite of what is working and this HAS to have taken a toll on the entire team AND his assistants. Once they lose faith in the head man, it's literally over. How can you tell it's over? They quit executing and start questioning everything. Players bolt from the program. This looks to me like exactly where we are.

I'm not a Gus apologist by any means. I wasn't crazy about his hire, but I will say this- This season is a few plays away from Auburn being in the top 5. LSU- if ref doesn't throw one flag, we win. MSU- the MSU touchdown that was awarded for not crossing the plane or Boobee fumbling, the game is ends differently. Those two games end in a W, I think TN game wouldn't have been an L.

Now, we could have only postponed the inevitable blow outs that are waiting in Athens and Tuscaloosa, with those plays but the season would be completely different.

Thin margin for error and we are constantly on the wrong side of margin this season.

If Stidham had not went full tard in two games, we would not be having his discussion at all. We would all be talking about what we are going to cook this weekend during the game.

Im not happy with some of the stuff that Gus has done but the reason this team in not in the to 10 is because of Jarrett Stidham and his total meltdown. Im not talking about making a few bad choices, Im talking about full on meltdown. He has played enough and has enough experience at this point NOT to make the mistakes he has. That is not because of coaching or anything else. He will never get any better than what he is now. You dont fix those issues with people. It is inherent in them.

Boobies fumble was bad but he is young. He is not exactly what we need but he is the best we have right now.

As for Slayton, his drop Saturday night more than likely cost us the game in the end. Catching that TD with 6 mins left in the game swings the momentum to us and more than likely we win that game. But that is just a guess

You cant keep making the stupid mistakes we have been making and win games against good teams. Or even not so good teams

Comparing Gus to Saban is just plain stupid. There is only one Nick Saban and he is not coming to Auburn. You really cant compare people to him. Even if you are from the state of Alabama

But this discussion is really a useless one. People have made up their mind about Gus and if he won three consecutive championships, the same exact troll posters would come out of the woodwork once he lost a game after. Its what happens when people make decisions based on emotion. Glad I am not in business with some of you

You act like this year is an anomaly. It's not. This year is the norm for GusShortBus. It is year 6. He has been having the same problems over and over. You can blame it on Stidham or the refs all you want, but we've seen this before. 2013 was the anomaly for bitch tits. It's time to wake up and smell the 7-6, 8-5 seasons my friend.

Gus is just the guy making 7 million bucks a year, it’s not his fault dude. It’s the 22 year old student athlete’s fault

Agree to disagree. Gus' deficiencies eventually had to come to light in a big way and this looks like a perfect storm of MANY things, including what you have mentioned. I fully agree with MOST of your points but Gus IS to blame and he is far from a leader right now. If he does indeed just get the bleeding in check, he will earn his money. Tough task but I am honestly pulling for him and our entire program. Self awareness on his part would be a refreshing start to new beginnings.

yes, but why do all of Gus' QB's go full retard? Why do they all become scared pussies?

I'll tell you why. It's because the QB adopts the mindset and attitude of the coach. Then the whole team adopts the mindset and attitude of the QB and the coach. So when you have an anxious pussy as your leader at HC, your whole team is going to play scared. And it is never more obvious than when you watch the QB. It has happened with every QB. I don't include Cam and Nick because they were too good and too confident for Gus to break them.

He has ruined every good player he has touched. Happens every year, same old shite. He looked like a completely broken and scared man Saturday. He's got to go.

Lanier is mostly likely trolling, but some people really are pro-Gus to a fault.

Which I don't understand. He's not that likable. He's not funny. He doesn't do anything cool. He's probably a decent guy but he's not a huge humanitarian or anything. He goes out there and someone pulls a string on his back and he shits out some banal phrase.

I can totally understand why people wouldn't hate him, but I have no idea why there is a contingent who adores him. Is it just some old-school obedience to any coach of Auburn attitude?

To be fair, every team has this problem. OU has had two back to back QB transfers. Saban has had QB issues. LSU has a QB transfer. UGA hasn't won shite. It just illustrates the shortage of QB prospects and recruiting rankings are suspect.

where? not here. it's almost like there's a middle ground between: a) adoring gus and b) "let's burn it all to the ground and start over," where most people fall.

Save for LSU, who replaced their HC because of QB issues, who else has had qb problems as severe as AU? Even if you don’t get the once in a class qb, you should still be able to win games. Other teams do, we don’t. We basically have to have world beaters at qb to do anything

It's not so much as a lack of prospects as much as it is a lack of really good QB coaches in the country and we need HELP here.

He has issues. No doubt. I am just playing devils advocate, and trying to underatand the big picture. People need to understand there may not be someone better than Gus on the market.

This is pretty much it. Lack of o-line recruiting, not going after a true dual threat QB, crappy RB recruiting, and lazy assistant coaching hires. Perfect storm.

I used to think that if Gus finally got a solid supporting defense, then AU would be a force for years since we have an offensive genius as head coach, much like Tubs could never field a strong offense, despite always having excellent defenses, but amazingly Gus has ruined his offense.
