Tripping or just do like the Georgia defender did on the interception to end the game. Just run through the receiver

Never listened to this podcast, but from what I hear about this Crain kid I'm surprised he didn't go full on "DO YOU KNOW WHO MY DADDY WAS??!!??! "

At one point they said Wooden would’ve chipped him. Then another part they said Puckett.

Wooden did not come down in coverage out of his quarters coverage on the 3rd and 12. He was looking outside at McConkey. Puckett as described on the TD play earlier was to deep in drop creating to big of an open area in the zone.

Again you don’t “chip” with safeties

You can. You’re gonna get torched over the top (especially against a freak like Bowers), but technically you could

True we should have put Jayson Jones on him and chipped him on the line of scrimmage. Frick holding the inside zone run play at least we chipped Bowers.

jake wanted to come it an use a play call something similar to 31 lightning cover 34 and then ramble on about how in the world do you not know that blah blah blah.

He even threw in some stuff about Chinese something in coverage that I've never heard of.

That's why I don't come in and generally use the "business vocab" and use what can be seen clearly by the normal fan. And what might be working or not working and why. I don't just come on here and say well we should be running a 38 blast when we get the 3 man front from them. No one would know what the hell I was talking about.

That was what is infuriating - Jake was basically saying if you don’t know what a “24 blast, over front, non sequitor, coverage gap” is you have no business critiquing. No casual fans know the jargon, and even many football players don’t apparently.

But casual fans can still appreciate what is and is not being accomplished with the scheme by watching even if they don’t know the play call term.

Like the cam Reilly busted coverage comment - it was clear as day that Reilly was supposed to cover bowers, but Jake kept saying “but how do you know that if you can’t identify the coverage”.

Crain sucks bad. He was growing in me after a couple LOA guest spots, but ruined it completely. Ego-maniac with a mouth piece, and those people are the worst

One was full of himself and the other was ignorant. Maybe so ignorant that he made Jake hott. It was not a great conversation all around. Just personally I feel like I know just enough about football without being considered a football technician. I find football technicians rather dorky and boring and do not think I can keep up with them past the water cooler. To me we didnt do enough to stop Bowers.I am not about to rewatch tape.

Why Zac is embarrassing the show with inferior rookies going at it beats me. Chex and I could lap both of them. frick Zac.

I am drinking Fireball, too. So, there is that.

Haha for whatever reason this reminded me of our linebackers in college... they called chipping a "reroute" when they were in zone. Whenever one of them effectively "rerouted" someone - for them this meant leveling a freshman slot receiver running a crosser - they'd all start yelling "REEEE ROUTTEEE" in a Mr. T voice.

I'm sure you couldn't get away with that these days.

And yea I'm not sure in what context a safety could chip though I'm sure there is some weird situation where a strong safety is down in the box and playing a shallow zone

I'm going to have to go listen. I usually really like this show! If know what's happening it's more helpful to explain the reason in simple terms so everyone is on the same page.

A super simple example is I was watching football with my dad. Receiver catches a hitch. My dad is badmouthing the corner who had bailed to a deep third. I explained "that's not really his responsibility... he's got to go to the deep third and the inside receiver was running a fade... if he didn't go, you'd be badmouthing him about the touchdown thrown to the pylon...". Very simple situation many casual football fans would understand, but those types of discussions help everyone vs. trying to gate keep and being like "if you don't know cover 3 you can't enjoy football".

Anyone catch the podcast today?

Jake Crain seems like a dick.
Just listened to it
Jake Crain needs to take a Xanax or something - he sounds like a complete arse as well...
"GIVE ME DEPTH AND SHADE FOR A COVER TWO CORNER"

For anyone that cares anymore - what Jake should have said: (I actually agree with his point btw)

"When your LB or DE is going to be playing shallow zone, make sure he puts hands on Bowers to at least slow down his release. In other words "chip" Bowers. The point of this is to disrupt his release and the timing between QB/TE to help give your Dline a little more time to create pressure and give the safety a little more time to get in coverage with Bowers. You can't really do the same "chip" from the safety position because safeties are generally lined up too far off the line of scrimmage and need to cover a deep part of the field. Lastly, no it's not an "easy" thing to do but stopping an All-American tight end is not an "easy" thing to do. You could also try to double cover him more but Georgia has other offensive weapons who will beat you if you do that."

In a debate, a moderator usually asks a question, and it's point, counter point.

Look on Zac's face about 4 min, and he knew this was a mistake. Unibrow guy was just abrasive, but C5 started with Spanish Fort, and S AL. I wonder if that was C5's Plan B, to how it started. Almost like he was saving that for last, and threw it out there at the beginning.

C5 with a small W there.

Never known anyone who said "You have to know this much football terminology to be a fan".

Watching the LSU/MIZZOU game with my son, and I said "GA Pass", and he said "hook & ladder". Lots of slang out there.

I imagine a litte ole lady with (submit team) shirt on making all kinds of dips, and then saying who's playing.....I love the Saints.

Yea - it stinks because the "debate" could have been a learning thing for everyone and a chance to demonstrate the complexity to C5 who is kind of an "armchair QB", but instead he just came off like a dick.

Yea there are some high level concepts where everyone knows generally what you mean - like "Tampa 2". But there's other stuff where there are a lot of correct answers.

Like his "Cover 2 Corner depth and shade" thing kinda bugged me. I've seen cover 2 corners line up anywhere from the LOS to ~7y deep. Usually outside shade (because you want to get hands on the receiver and send him inside) but you could line up heads up if you're confident you can beat the guy physically (think small receiver and strong/long corner), but a lot of it depends on who they're lining up against, how physical they are, if they're trying to hide coverage, etc... So trying to "big time" or "flex" on the other guy just isn't productive.
