Freeze would definitely have Auburn right back into the race for 4th in SEC West.

In 2013? Probably.

Now? No.

Can we break this down some?

Is their schedule harder than Auburn’s? Certainly their pedigree isn’t the same. Facilities are poorer. But in the example of Freeze, was his talent better than Auburns?

I actually haven’t looked. I don’t know the answer to it.

I have noticed some people are against Kiffin but for Freeze. At the same school, Kiffin had a 10-3 season last year and has their team 6-0 now. And he hasn’t sniffed an elite recruiting class (although he does well in the portal).

Curious about the granular details on Freeze. I’m not a fan of his but not because of the moral stuff. That’s not my concern. I’m just not general blown away by the resume and I’m worried why nobody else is interested in him. He was available when Harsin was hired and is still out there and I don’t know that any other power 5 program has courted him

The Harsins swing, odds are his wife knew, was there, and maybe joined them if that's true. He wasn't hiding that from her, he was hiding it from the general public, again if true. I'm sure Mason left because he was outraged Harsin broke his vows, told Bobo and he was too so they left.

Point is there was something that happened that wasn't made public knowledge

I actually pulled the recruiting classes during the Freeze era recently and his talent was way worse. Fan support worse. Facilities and history worse. Auburn is a top 15 blue blooded type of program. Ole Miss is not. It is indisputably a tougher place to win.

Must respect that.

Appreciate these posts. Actually ties out with the timeline and in the context of when/how things went down at that time.

I’d be interested in the rankings/average star ratings. If nobody does it I might mess around with it tomorrow. I know they had a couple of top 5ish classes

You're in luck... found my post here's what I found:

quote:

Not trying to pick a fight but I remember AU being more talented and think the numbers show that. To look at the depth they really had you need to go back to 2010 or so to look at what he inherited + brought in. I think sometimes people forget how good our recruiting was during that era. From 2010-2016 Auburn was top 10 all years but 1. OM only broke the top 10 twice, and their average range was 15-25.

Under Freeze OM recruiting took a HUGE uptick (maybe because paying players), but they still never really recruited on the same level that Auburn did.

Recruiting comparison 247sports composite:
2010 - Auburn 6 OM 24
2011 - Auburn 5 OM 20
2012 - Auburn 11 OM 48
2013 - Auburn 8 OM 10
2014 - Auburn 6 OM 15
2015 - Auburn 8 OM 17
2016 - Auburn 9 OM 5

Got those reversed it looks like

‘13-‘16 was closer than I expected. I knew the classes were dogshit before he got there and to his credit it takes some time to develop those classes once they’re signed.

I was on the Freeze bad wagon during the last coaching search and I’m still onboard with Freeze.

If he’s learned from his downfall at ole miss then obviously it’s potentially a decent enough hire. I’m not head over heels in love with the guy as a coach. He’s going to be 6 years removed from a P5 program now too which isn’t awesome either in my opinion. But I agree with most that we could probably do a lot worse

There’s probably not a hire that would frustrate me more than Freeze. Might as well have kept Gus if that’s what we want.

I honestly think this is how he ducked a moral clause to fire him for cause.
