Neither Caddie nor Etheridge have much recruiting clout yet. Not enough to diminish the lack of regional ties by the majority of the coaching staff at least.

You want to point out people point out Bobo, Friend, Schmedding and whoever is in charge of DB recruiting.

Those aren’t of “coaches that have already been here” variety. I don’t know who is recruiting DBs but Etheridge is the coach and I already pointed him out.
Caddie is probably our best recruiter right now. That’s not ideal. He was probably the fourth best last year?

Bobo and Friend have been here though, not at Auburn, but they have plenty of experience in this region. So far Friend and Schmedding have been the two worst recruiters (I still don't understand that random Schmedding promotion a month or so ago)

I agree with you here about Caddy.. I think he's good, but he def shouldn't be the best recruiter on staff at this point in his career.

Friend- is kinda intriguing. He did bring in some stud OL at Tennessee.
Bobo- I’m no fan of his. He was a let down. Bobo made some stout Georgia offenses look average.
Etheridge- He is going to have to cut his teeth in the SEC quickly. We cannot have coaches on training wheels. Same goes for Cornelius Williams.
Schmedding never heard of her or him. It’s a pretty ragtag group of coaches. Not very impressive but I’ll let things play out. It’s a new era, new hope.
ETA: As for Mason, I’m actually a fan of his. I think he has the personality to be a great recruiter.

Bobo- I’m no fan of his. He was a let down. Bobo made some stout Georgia offenses look average.I said it before and I'll keep saying it, anyone with half a brain can recruit well at UGA. Kids in this state grow up in the dawg cult and dream about playing for them.
Etheridge- He is going to have to cut his teeth in the SEC quickly. We cannot have coaches on training wheels. He did well at Houston but the SEC is a different game. I think he will be solid but its going to take time. Not even close to McGriff though.
Same goes for Cornelius Williams I'm in wait and see mode.. if we can get Clemons and Fair then all credit to him. Without them though the WR class could be a dud.

Hell, sure there is. But the work still has to go on. You can’t have two straight bad classes and just say,”it’s because of Covid”. They are getting paid millions and millions of dollars to get the job done. Right?
It’s different and will require a different approach. He just needs to figure it out. He is not the only coach out there facing this issue.

I’m not mad bruh. I just never thought of you as a victim. It’s difficult for me to put my head around it.
You have come harder at people than what you perceive is happening.
But you’re still good people and we just have different views in some respects right now.
I don’t believe there’s one person here that thinks we can be successful recruiting 3 stars in today’s college football, and I have said before it’s uncomfortable seeing where we are at. I am just not going to go where some of you all are right now. You can go back in my posts where I said I am going to give him 24 months and more specifically 3 recruiting cycles. This is one.
I do expect to see signs of improvement during that time. You all just keep sounding the alarm as if that is going to change anything taking place right now. I get yours and others stance. You know mine. Im not going to keep exchanging posts over it anymore like silly middle schoolers. Me feeling this way is not believing we will crush the SEC with 3 stars, so stop throwing that lame argument out there or I will claim I’m being attacked and pounded on by you and Corch.
I believe we have to recruit better but I choose to give Harsin some time. You, not so much. Cool. We think differently on this, so what.

I am certainly willing to give BH a chance and some time. I know Rome was not built in a day. My only point is that so far, its concerning. I have not made my mind up if he is in over his head or not. I hope that will be cleared up by how he coaches on the field. Big deal for me. If he handles that well, some guys will come
I wont however tag on and adapt some of the terminology being thrown around. Its the same old stuff every new coach uses and most of the time its just BS. Kinda like a coach coming in to "Change the Culture" kinda crap. Ive been around too long and heard that too many times. Its like when your girlfriend tells you that she needs time for herself. Yea, Ok.
It is good to have different opinions. Keeps things fresh. I think I have stuck to my opinions on things on this board for years and never wavered like some. I dont really have a opinion of him, just the state of recruiting at this point. I get the reasons/excuses but its just my opinion at this point
Honestly, the fact that Auburn has not taken advantage of the new NIL policy is concerning. It should have been like legalizing weed in the state of Louisiana. For that, I am disappointed.

Lanier you’re a real headscratcher. Your loyalty to Gus was little over the top but I respected it.
But then we hired Harsin and for some reason I figured of all the posters here you for sure would’ve taken pretty warmly to him.
Recruiting is always an issue for Auburn in the summer. Every single year this board has had freak out moments and in the end things are not that bad. Unless coach gets fired…
BTW I’m not putting the last recruiting class on Harsin. He got here a week before first signing day for Christ’s sake. That was all Gus. We should’ve had more than 12 commitments in December.

Thats it. Nothing to scratch your head about. it is a concern. Its not normal for Auburn or for any other new coach that was hired in the past 25 years. There are reasons but still, its odd and somewhat concerning.

Jang for me it’s not who we have in the summer. It’s the entire target list for this recruiting cycle. CBH expect the players to put in that extra work to compete against anyone. With the huge recruiting staff at least expand out to some bigger names. Target your lower guys as well. We are a big enough brand to say we are holding out for one guy for this position if player X doesn’t take it we want you. It’s been done that way for many years at AU and other elite teams.

quote:Totally agree with this but will wait until I see what product we put on the field. If we have players who keep playing and don't give up along with coaches who make adjustments in the game. I am concerned about recruiting but am willing to give the staff some time to make their names known to HS coaches in the areas of recruiting.
Im just saying it has been a very long time since we were in this shape
I do like the fact that this group of coaches are more welcoming of former players as that helps as we have some former players that are coaching and can let the staff know of some up and coming talent.
I am looking forward to see how we scheme and play the game on both sides. I am looking at how our OL improves, QB play and the new scheme on D.
Some concerns but by no means panic yet.

Totally true.
I can remember even with an established Gus here, that there were summers and going into that December early signing period that we were fretting as our top recruits were falling by the way side. But somehow, if we faltered in one area, Gus would rise up and sign a big dog in another area we didn't feel sure about.
So with a HC like Gus who had plenty of cred as our OC, and then HC he could recruit well enough to keep us around top 10.
Harsin has none of that built in. So, while it will be concerning if we can't get inside top 20 with 2022 class, it will definitely be a major concern if he doesn't bring in a top 10 in 2023, regardless of our play on the field.
Harsin will have to have top level classes by 2023, as he will have been into his 3rd year here.
I think we are concerned for now..rightly so but I hope for better results by the early signing period.

Bottom line is either we get better or everyone else has to get much, much worse.
Out of curiosity, how many dead hookers can we strategically place in the trunks of our opponent's cars?

Why there was no planned NIL help in place, as far as we know and see so far, can be a blunder.

No NIL? Maybe AD Greene. He said a month or so before it went into effect he was looking into it. I guess like his first year he did nothing because he was trying to get a feel for the “culture”.
