His best move was hiring Bruce Pearl.

Personally, I would like to see the ath dept move to a more business approach... but if that happens people will still bitch, I have no doubt.

It's not like Jacobs lured Pearl away from another program though. We just happened to be open right when Pearl was allowed to get back into coaching. He was an obvious choice and easy get.

If Bama fired Grant a year earlier and Auburn waited a year to fire Barbee, then Pearl would be in Tuscaloosa right now. And Jacobs wouldn't have the creativity to go out and find somebody not obvious like Avery Johnson.

Nah. I've been told Alabama wouldn't hire a known cheater like Pearl.

He literally cannot win with some of you...

It's okay to think the guy has done a bad job and deserves to be fired... and still give him credit for making s good decision.

Their fans were salivating for Pearl, begging for Grant to be fired so they could snag Pearl before we did. They were pissed last year. They might be saying that now though... until the shine wears off Avery and his lack of coaching ability shows through.

I know, but you know the narrative by now. Never mind they had just hired Kiffin the year before and all was forgiven.

Yep. He's brought us a gift every now and then which is nice but doesn't take away from the years of abuse. He's toxic to the university and needs to be eliminated. I'll trade another year or two of medicore Gusball if it gets me a new AD (one that isn't from the network)

Then how are you okay that every year you keep paying more and more for Jacobs' mistakes?
It is frustrating that we hear that we are middle of the road in SEC facilities, that our stadium looks like a concrete jungle and our bagmen go without moneybags.

Just because we can afford to make money mistakes right now doesn't mean we should accept constant mismanagement of money and department resources

I wish Jacobs could go back to fundraising, by all accounts he does a great job there. He got the Auburn arena built when we sucked at basketball

I still do not understand the full reason Jacobs gets so much heat from everyone here.

JJ gets some undeserved shots. I think JJ is an Auburn guy and I don't want to run him down for sport. I also think he's out of his element and we need a professional in that role.

Overall, we just need some new life in the AD.

Do you buy season tickets? If you don't have to absorb ridiculous increases to pay for mismanagement shut the frick up

I mean, it's your choice to buy them. If you're so unhappy with the situation, don't. It's pretty simple really.

As long as people keep paying the prices, there won't be any changes. If we only sold 90% of our season tickets, he'd probably already be gone. But the market continues to grab them up. It's kinda like my dad bitching about the salaries of Drew Brees and Sean Payton while wearing a saints t-shirt....

This is what I've been pondering-

We should have elevated Lance Thompson and the staff we used for the bowl game. Good raise, DC title, no extension. I say this because there is at least a chance that we are coach shopping next year. Now we've brought in some really expensive guys with some new contracts and buyouts that we are going to be on the hook for.

HOWEVER, if Jacobs insists that this happens, he's meddling and not letting Gus have control of his hires.

Other than the big money, I don't envy Jay Jacobs.

2012 nearly did it. Huge decrease in revenues for the school and town.

Also, you don't have to hate Jacobs but I don't understand anyone defending Jacobs or thinking he's been a good AD

Look at the football schedule following re-alignment, Auburn got absolutely screwed and I think it was in part due to Jacobgs, 'awe shucks, we're just happy to be here attitude"

bullshite.

You do realize the SEC is a democracy right? But its a democracy where some are more equal than others?

The majority of SEC schools ALWAYS line up behind Bama whenever SEC votes come up. That's the way it is. That's the way its always been. And those votes aren't AD influenced... they're influenced at the PRESIDENTIAL level. So if you want to blame anyone about how we're constantly butt-fricked by the SEC, you can blame the system or (if you need a real person) you can blame the Auburn president (now and in the past).

So we have two choices if you don't like it: Suck it up... or fricking LEAVE.

And if JJ and the Auburn prez up and decided to tell all you shrinking violets that Auburn was fed up with it and that we're taking our ball and leaving the SEC? You delicate snowflakes would whine and bitch about that too.

And why in the world would any other university line up in support of Auburn anyway considering the back-biting and vitriol Auburn's own ALUMS direct at the fricking school every goddam day of the year? Sure, that's a fricking safe and secure ally that you'd want to align yourself with! That kind of crowd would NEVER stab you in the back with the change of the wind!

If the Auburn whiners would ever just STFU and FOR GODDAM ONCE present a united front, we might have a million-to-one chance to get some support and change some shite within the SEC. Maybe other SEC institutions would look at us and think "Yeah, that makes sense, they seem to have their shite together."

Yeah... as if that'll ever happen.

That being said, if us Alums want to be more respected within the SEC we could maybe start by not blaming everything on Bama. It makes us seem like the paranoid, little brother they proclaim us to be.

And it wasn't just Bama, I'm pretty sure Georgia had a hand in our scheduling also.

I want an AD (and President for that matter) that can build networks and alliances outside of glad handling the residents of Lee County
