Jay Jacobs has never had a job outside the city of Auburn in his adult life

After his playing career at AU ended he was hired as a coach at Lee-Scott Academy in Auburn. After one season there he was hired as assistant S&C coach for AU and never looked back. From assistant S&C coach to assistant AD in 5 years.

And people wonder why when it comes to football we seem to only hire coaches with prior connections to AU, well who else does JJ know?

How is anybody okay with a multi-million dollar nationally prominent Athletic Department being run by a hick from down the road in Chambers County with ZERO experience anywhere else? No wonder we're constantly plagued by internal problems.

What did you expect? The whole athletic department has been built around the good ole boy network and favors. If we had an administration with some stones, we would be hiring people based on their merit, not on how well connected they are to Auburn.

I expect that if Bama was able to break free of their good ole boy network a decade ago after seeing how that shite hurts a program, that Auburn can do the same after all our recent issues. Especially considering half the fanbase has been calling for Jacobs head for most of his tenure as AD.

Alabama will be right back in the good ole boy network as soon as Saban is gone

Unfortunately it's probably going to take a rude awakening for that to happen. If we finish another season at 6-6 or 7-5 with losses to LSU, Alabama, and Georgia, we'll be looking for a new coach. And I pray to God Jay Jacobs will not be the one to hire the next head coach here. We can and should be doing a lot better.

I think that the momentum is growing that Yabba Dabba will be hired at Bammer when Saban leaves.

Good ole boy is alive and well, they just all listen and follow what Saban says.

When Saban is gone, their REC power struggles will ruin their program if they can't replace him quickly with a strong personality

I don't know if he'll take it. He's kinda built his own program.

I think that he would say yes so fast that his head would spin.

Pretty sure they can afford it a little more than us with the coaches running around in their network and the state of their program as a whole.

Yup. And he'd do great there IMO. And even if he said no, they have options. By the time Saban retires they'll know how Kirby can run a similar program. Pruitt may have HC experience by then. Not to mention other guys in Saban's tree like Jimbo, Kiffin, and Muschamp.

They have options. Meanwhile at Auburn, our network has landed us a 5-19 Iowa State coach and a guy that had 1 year of college HC experience at a sun belt school, and hadn't even been at the college level for a decade at the time of his hire.

Agree 100%. No way should Jay Jacobs ever be allowed to hire another football coach at Auburn. If Malzahn and this crew doesn't make it, just think of the millions of dollars that were wasted in the last two football staff buyouts.

Jacobs needs to be invited to leave the university. He's doing damage at this point.

Dabo is a good coach but seems like a massive culture shock to go from Saban type system to Swinney love

Kirby isn't leaving his alma mater, a top 10 program if he is having success.

Pruitt would be interesting giving personality but he is a legit coach

Bammer will not hire an unproven coach to follow Saban. You can bet they learned their lessons with Dubose, Price and Shula. If Dabo continues to win at Clemson, I think he will be the guy. He would be loved and fit right in with their fanbase. Dabo is 100% certified pure gump. Following Saban is going to be a tough task for anyone.

Not really. Jacobs has been here 30 years and knows nothing else. You underestimate the influence all his buddies and relationships he's made over that time has on who he considers when he's hiring.

This is a story of hope. Shows the greatness of America that an absolutely incompetent idiot can kiss arse so welk that eventauly he can make $2100 everyday he "works."

Jacobs is America, so can you.
