Not having Sammie killed us in 14.

Sammie played against UGA in 2014.

That game is probably the most inexplicable loss since USF in 2007. Consider that two weeks later, we put 44 points on Bama, with Marshall setting the all time record for passing yards in a game (456 yds, plus 3 TDs). We also ran for 174 yds in that game and picked off Sims 3 times. Just crazy.

Gus is in the wrong business if he doesn't want the kind of consideration and analysis that gets applied here.

I will acknowledge that the anonymity which internet message boards afford are a temptation for me to be more brusque than I might be if we were sitting down having a beer together. I can't say that I'm completely different, but I think you'd probably be smiling when you called me a miserable f**k to my face.

Tuberville lost his last 3 against UGA, priming the pump for what came after.

In 2006, he lost to a 6-4 UGA team with a 9-1 Auburn squad.

He was 5-5 against UGA going against them in the best years they've had since Herschel. The two UGA teams Gus lost to in 15 and 16 are the worst UGA teams probably since Ray Goff.

Don't be a internet bad arse. It was a general statement. I think you know that.

To be honest, I dont think he gives one shite what you or I think. He knows more about what he is doing that you and I know about anything in football combined and multiplied by 500. None of us know whats going on behind the scenes with these kids and play calling. Its all just assumption on our part.

Was Duke kicked by then? Maybe that's who I am thinking.

I'm no Tuberville fan but a raw Win% v Win% is extremely unfair to him and bias in Gus' favor

Things like
-Gus getting 12 games (i.e. extra cupcake W)
-SOS Rotating cross divisional opponents (SCAR, Mizz, Vandy, UK, Tenn)
-SEC has been bad in 2015/2016
-LSU/Arkansas were much better, Ole Miss under Cutcliffe solid

On the other hand, the Bama dynasty wasn't going on. Tubs beating Bama 6 times in a row made him what he was for AU people, and Bama was a middle of the road SEC team for almost all of the 2000s.

I should have said one miracle and a kick six. I was at both of those games.

I was there for both games too.

The true miracle was Murray being awarded a touchdown without actually scoring one.

LSU was significantly better then than during Gus' tenure though to offset some of that

If I had time I'd look at my made up "acceptable loss" metric to really try and compare tho

That was not a touchdown. I had a great view looking down the line at that non touchdown.

Kind of unfair.

AU's one non-P5 loss was to a USF team that was in the Big East, a BCS AQ conference, which was the equivalent of today's P5.

They beat eventual Big East Champ West Virginia, then eventual CUSA Champ UCF (by 52 points!) and rose all the way to #2 before dropping 3 straight and finishing 9-4.

The last authentic non-major conference team to beat us was Southern Miss in 1991. We've won 75 straight since.

Jury still out on Gus. I don't think Gus will ever have the level of consistent success in big games that Tubby had in 04-06. Wasn't he 9-1 against Top 10 teams during that stretch?

They both have laid some huge eggs for sure though.

Yes, but it was the 5 other losses that kept us out of the SECCG and/or BCS Bowls in 05-06.

Those teams were talented enough win the West, play for the SECC and be in the NC discussion all three seasons. Tubs' inability to prepare for games against inferior competition cost us from having an epic run at a time when our two biggest rivals were struggling.
