The big question marks with Kiffin are 1) how much can you blame the sanctions at USC for his coaching failures and 2) how much did he learn under Saban?

And hes also beating crappy teams. Hes a 8-9 win a year coach which is what we have already. Hes 1-2 in bowl games as a head coach. He left Tennessee for a better job, was left behind at USC and told to look elsewhere at bama. Saban is a rehab for coaches and still ran off Kiffin. Definitely the kind of coach Auburn needs. Kiffin comes to Auburn I bet hes fired within 3 years.

Perhaps neither coach is the answer...

Definitely better options. Auburn needs to swing for the fences. Get someone in here that's not afraid to adapt to changes and keeps the players in line. Whoever that may be

We need to go get Jimmy Lake and be done with it.

How about this - instead of arguing between Kiffin and Clark, let's just hire Aranda and call it a day.

Hard to say, but you just can't ignore them. I mean they didn't tackle in practice because he couldn't risk injury.

That said, I would never hire him based solely on his USC tenure but because...

It is easy to forget that Kiffin was in his 30s while coaching at USC and figuring things out

Any interest I have in Kiffin is based on him recognizing mistakes he's made + learning what a well run program looks like under Saban

Because the real answer is Seth Littrell

There is absolutely no way you can seriously suggest that the following blind coaching resume would be considered a "hot commodity" by programs like Auburn

Coach XYZ 19-12 FBS , 11-4 FCS

- FBS Experience HC/Coordinator/Asst: 7 Yr
- P5 HC Experience: 0YR
- P5 Coordinator Experience: 0YR
- P5 Assistant Experience: 0YR
- Demonstrated Recruiting: No

Hot commodity may have been a stretch, but I think what Clark has done with the situation he inherited is being vastly underappreciated. I think being in the state of Alabama, it has been overlooked mostly. Let's not act like UAB was dominating their competition before he got there. How many coaches you think could take what happened to them, and still be competitive and get players to come there?

They were 38-81 the decade before he got there, going 2-10, 3-9, 3-9 the three seasons before he arrived. He then went 6-6 his first year and were bowl eligible. They then go on a 2 year hiatus from football. He keeps the team together, is able to recruit, and goes 8-5 their first year back and go to their second ever bowl game. He currently has them 5-1 for this season. What Clark has done at UAB is very comparable to what Kiffin has done at FAU. Yes Kiffin has the prior experience, and i've already said in this thread he is probably my first choice, but acting like Clark is only getting mentioned because he is in the state is silly.

His fiery, honest way of going about things as well as his time with Saban is the only thing making him a possibility right now in my head. I think he is similar to Bruce in a lot of ways. He also managed to gain a lot of momentum in the one season he had at UT...I'm curious what might have been there had he not left so soon.

Kiffin with a competent DC/Defense is a dangerous thing. He'll be able to recruit lights out at AU.

The question will be is the potential baggage that may or may not come with him going to be worth it?

My top picks (and I know some of these won't leave their current jobs but I would still try)

Top Tier:

Chris Peterson
David Shaw
James Franklin (ready for the downvotes)
Mike Gundy

Middle Tier:

Garry Patterson
Mick Leach
Chip Kelly
Lane Kiffin

Last Resort:

Kliff Kingsbury
Muschamp
Charlie Strong

Yep, I wonder the same thing. I'd hate to hire him only to see it all fall apart 2-3 seasons later with the entire nation saying 'I told ya so...'

Spill the beans, Tuba. It'll stay right here. Pinky promise.

Besides, if you know, a lot of people know. So give it up.

Agreed, but he still is another year or two away from even a mid tier P5 job

I'd argue it may be more impressive if he has a better year than Kiffin this season

I don't know anyone pushing Lane Kiffin just because he won the Sun Belt last year though.

Again, there is no way people would seriously consider a 19-12 coach with no P5 HC or ASST coaching experience, no proven recruiting ability and only 7 years FBS experience

OK, it is basically common knowledge in Bama circles at this point anyway. I’ve heard this from Bama friends who are well connected.

Apart from prowling for coeds on the reg, he was involved with a very prominent booster’s wife.

Just shite you can’t do as a coach. The first for Title IX reasons, the second because you never bite the hand that feeds you.

He’s just too much of a liability.
