I just don't get it...

College football is baffling.
How can we perform like we did in the first three games this season and end up having to bench our starting QB because we are seriously struggling with Georgia State?
I don't understand how we actually regress. None of it makes sense. We had chances to beat a top ten Penn State. We absolutely destroyed Akron and Alabama State.
I would think our lines would improve. I would think Bo continues to improve. I would think our play calling improves. I would think... I would think... I would think...
What the hell is going on? I know the same questions are asked when any top 25 team somehow struggles with a much, MUCH lesser opponent - but man it's hard to understand what happened...

It's college football and most teams have some let downs. If Bo doesn't overthrow the WR's early the game probably isn't that close. The coach at Ga State understands how to prepare a team...he's done it before.
Based on body language I'd guess our team has some guys not bought into the staff and their decisions. Maybe benching Bo will wake them up.

The reality may be somewhere in between.
Akron and Alabama State are beyond terrible. But let's not forget it took us finally scoring a bunch in the 3rd against Alabama State.
Penn state is likely not as good as marketed. They are decent. It's really only Alabama, Georgia then everyone else behind that
I actually like the fact Harsin has the balls to sit starters if they suck.

Few things come to mind:
1) This was a let down game. Two cupcakes to open the season, a huge OOC away game that we lost, conference play starting next week with two rivals in a row. We did not give a shite about Georgia St and I wasn’t surprised to struggle early
2) Two major deficiencies were exposed. First, our defense struggles with blown coverages. Penn St identified it and we didn’t solve the problem in a week. Second, Bo Nix cannot handle adversity. Georgia St set up to stop the run and forced Bo to throw to win the game. Factor in our offensive line playing poorly (mostly due to the first reason listed above), and you’ve got a big job for Bo to do to win the game. Still, it shouldn’t be a problem for a 5 star guy to make plays against a much lesser opponent like Georgia St. But when those plays didn’t go well, he lost his composure and got worse as the game went on.
I fully expect us to start Bo Nix next week unless there’s been issues at practice with him. I also fully expect us to be more competitive against LSU and get back to our performance of the first three weeks.

I don’t think we can chalk getting dominated in the trenches by Georgia State as “let down game”
Our offensive line is absolutely abysmal

Is the line bad? Yep. But they also aren’t horrific either. They didn’t give up a sack at Penn State and they moved the ball.
GA State put 8 in the box and said beat us with the pass. It’s amazing the Penn State didn’t bring as many blitzes as we saw yesterday. The MO of this team is that there’s no talent at WR and we have no QB that can make a throw consistently.

I disagree that they’re abysmal. Penn St has a stout defensive line and we rushed for 182 yards. While we only passed for 185, that stat would have improved with a QB that can throw the long ball accurately.
We would have been demolished by Penn St if our o line was as bad as they looked yesterday.

The play of the defense in the second quarter was as bad as I have ever seen. Giving up 21 points to a terrible team with a walk-on RB is inexcusable. Fortunately they played great in the second half or we lose. The offense was terrible. Both QBs missed wide open receivers, but TJ handled the pressure better.

We lost Penn State because of our WRs. In an effort to find a new way to lose, our OL did all they could to throw it for us yesterday.

3-1
Looking forward to our game next week. Hopefully we see the progress all are hoping to see from this team.
Trap games are real, is this what that was because of who we play next, I hope so. Our depth isn’t good at all. We need depth to do well in our league. Let’s see how this progresses moving forward.

When we lose McClain and Pappoe, I’m scared

I don't see how AU can possibly do that. While I'm not convinced that one is better than the other. TJ got it done last night, Bo did not.

I hate to be the one to say it but...we are not that good.
The talent just isn't there on the oline and dline. The wrs are vanderbilt talented not auburn talented.
Bo is a 5* athlete and a 3* qb.
Tank
Hunter
Wooden
2 of the dbs
2 of the Lbs
Carlson
Thats the group we got that would start at the UGAs / Bamas of the world.
I think we'll be juiced up for the LSU night game and play well with a shot to win it.
We have no business being on the field with UGA or Bama
We need to go 2-4 with TAMU / OleMiss / Arky / MooSt to finish with 6-7 wins assuming we beat USCe

Not having Pappoe and Zakoby was huge. Every linebacker and DB looked lost pre-snap trying to line up and either filled the wrong gap or were terribly slow in their reads. Once Zakoby came back and halftime adjustments were made, we didn't really see all of that confusion pre-snap.
Why in the world this wasn't addressed in the week of practice knowing Zakoby was going to miss the first half is beyond me. But it was clear they were all lost in the first half.
