How did we fall so far behind Georgia over the last 20 years?

They own us over the last couple of decades. What was the tipping point? Somehow even Richt was beating us.

I do not like UGA. At all.

Well most years they are just better than us as they should be given their inherent recruiting advantages.

We have also completely gagged some games away to bad Georgia teams like 2006, 2009, and 2016.

Have you paid attention to the number of 5 star players they've signed? They are stacked like cord wood.

That's more a recent thing though. This started back in 2006.

Recruiting. Specifically O and D line, Gus sucked

I get that. But this is Kirby's 6th year recruiting at an elite level. They always out recruited Auburn, but not to the level Kirby has.

We've also choked some games away we had nos business losing. Sean White's pick six with a hurt shoulder was the most recent one where we were probably a better team and lost. That '06 game was a Tuberville special...

We made the mistake of hiring Gus rather than hiring a coach that could have given us serious inroads into our main recruiting grounds in Kirby Smart. I don't think Kirby is the best in game coach, but he can flat out recruit and coach solid defense. That was the main tipping point.

On top of that we have seemed to choke a few times the last two decades when we have had better teams than Georgia.

Hopefully Harsin can turn us around, but we are going to need some serious recruiting on both lines to compete with them consistently (and WR).

Gus slowly drained the program. Say what you want about Chiz, but he recruited.

They recruit so well that their floor is so incredibly high and they’ve benefited from a soft division at times

Gus’s classes typically had better average star ratings. Just didn’t have the right guys and really didn’t get the OL recruiting right. There’s a lot of answers to the OP’s question

3 reasons

Tubberville got lazy.

Chiz was a flash in the pan.

And, mostly, Gus was and is horrible. The program-rot instilled in Auburn football by Gus Malzahn is virulent and deep.

My main takeaway watching this game is that we are completely outmatched in talent.

Either recruiting or development failed under Gus.... Or both

Hi, would you be so kind as to edit your basketball opening post to maybe play plate the schedule or request to the admin to unpin thread? Thanks.

Yep, all the whining about zone but then we went man and 18 got owned by a guy named Ladd McConkey.

Roger is pretty good, the rest of our secondary is not.

SEC East has also been garbage since UF faded. They got the advantage of easy SEC East and late game against Auburn who fought out the west.

Also, neither Tubbs or Gus really seemed to put a priority on the game
