Knew this would start happening. Have fun, enjoy this for Caddy, but in the end we have to be logical, not emotional.

I get it, but we aren't really expecting an interim coach to fish all the blights of the last head coach that was obviously inept are we?

You choose Lane or Caddy? Lane is proven.

This thread and AU twitter allow me to categorize our fans pretty easily.

It's almost like meeting a flat-earther at a dinner party. I'm not wasting my time getting to know them, I'll make the small talk long enough to not be a complete a-hole, but I'll find a reason to get another beer quickly and I'm not coming back.

Thank you.

I get the emotion Caddy has emoted from everyone but unfortunately he is not ready to take over this program. He has been perfect for what we needed right now, and I hope he chooses to remain with the team.

I also hope he has created an opportunity for himself at another program to cut his teeth even more. The story would be a great one if he was fully ready but he’s not.

I get the sentiment, but that's a bit harsh. Caddy is obviously a motivator and probably a hell of a recruiter. I don't think he's ready for this job, but I wouldn't compare people who want him to absolute fricking morons.

I mean, if the OC and DC are doing mostly their role, wouldn't he just be managing them and leading the team while making the big decisions both on and off the field while setting the culture. I think the amount of weight you put in the head coach position with regards to on-field playcalling is a bit high, unless the OC sucks at that role, which I think Carnell can build into easily with his past. Sure we'd like him to remain part of the staff, but I honestly don't know if you can expect that with every HC hire. We all want a better performance on the offense, but I don't fault that with Carnell, or expect that to be fixed in 2 weeks with him + Friend + Hilliard. I think Friend and Hilliard aren't ready for that, especially Hilliard. Not to mention our talent gap in the WR room/QB room with forward passes and getting open.

I can appreciate the emotion. And I don't mean to be catty, but Caddy isn't anything remotely close to being a college head coach. I'm not even sure he's a great running back coach.

I'll attract a lot of negative attention if I start pointing out details of the obvious. But AU fans who want to see him as our next head coach have to be deranged Lifetime TV-watching morons.

I like that he didn't go for dumb 4th down plays, but some of his decisions were a bit delayed with a response from the HC, this is where time could help.

Caddy was given the keys because he'll forever be happy being the interim.

Business decision and win-win that's pretty damn nice.

If you watch the tape, I don't think Caddy coached much of anything. He got his instructions from the booth. Hence the delays.

Certainly, some coaches are more animated than others. Saban and Dabo come to mind. But you can't cheerlead and sprint up and down the sidelines as much as Caddy and be an effective leader. Just isn't possible.

I love the guy and hope he is retained in some fashion on the next staff. However, there is a reason that most interim guys don't get the job. It seems like interim coaches always bring in fresh energy and emotion, because the kids like the new guy. Usually, you have to be pretty shitty to be fired midseason as a head coach so for the interim to come in and raise the energy for 6 games seems like such a night and day difference from the outside. But turning it around for a 4-6 game season, is a whole different animal than running every aspect of a team for 4 years...

OTOH, it worked out for Dabo and it worked for one year with Ed Orgeron before he absolutely checked out. But those are major outliers.

I’m not sure Caddy would disagree with you. I don’t think he had any aspirations to become a HC any time soon and was blown away to have the opportunity. He’d be in over his head. There’s a lot of requisites for an SEC head coach that many just don’t have.

No, I don't want Caddy to be setup to fail. Nothing I want less than for fans to start getting pissed when we lose and running him out of town. If it was some random coach, I wouldn't care. But I don't want to see that happening to Caddy.

Caddy needs to become an OC, or get a smaller HC job. Grow from there.

Call me crazy its just a guess. Im not sure Caddy wants the job. He knows what his role is right now. If he was to be "THE GUY", he would have hardly any stroke with the people who mattered when it was over something important.

I think I heard from the SECN brodcast that Caddy was/still is very nervous about having the interim job and the players noticed it at first too.

I don't know how he'll handle a full-time head coaching job if he was stressing out about a temp coaching gig.

Caddy is the man but if he isn't really sure about doing this for a short period of time, what makes you think he's ready for a 4-year contract

Ike Hilliard is more qualified and has a much better resume that Caddy. Ike spent a decade as a position coach at the highest level of football working for one of the best franchises in the history of the sport.

Carnell has coached RBs in HS and at Auburn for what, about 5 years now? For Gus Malzahn and Bryan Harsin.
