This is where I'm at. It's obvious that recruiting is important nobody is arguing that. But you can't fire a coach because you don't like the number next to Auburn's recruiting class after one season.
Exactly. The guy had a clear cut plan when he got here, so let him play it out and see what happens. After 3 or 4 years judge the results, and make a decision accordingly. Firing him on inuendo after 13 months is flat out ridiculous. I can't believe more people cant see that.

Napier arrived at Florida and stole Jack Pyburn and Jalen Farmer from us in 59 days.
Farmer had already been committed to UF and Pyburn grew up a Florida fan. Lol.

Recruiters recruit.
Those are the facts.
Brian Kelly just stole a 5* from A&M even though the momma wanted the kid in Texas.
You can either recruit, or you can’t.
Did that help us with Story? Or is that only automatic elsewhere?

I personally love the idea of having a bunch of guys that are bought into Auburn, want to work their tails off to prove themselves, and play above their ranking.
That sounds all good and nice, but in reality, you end up with a team of guys that nobody else wanted.
There are exceptions, and guys who ended up being very under rated, but it's rare and not enough to make a difference. There's a reason that team across the State is ranked in the top 3 every year, even with turning over the coordinators on a very frequent basis. Good Lord! They have a player in the Heisman hunt every year! You can have the best X's & O's coach in the country, but you need quality players to beat teams full of quality players. Our WR and OL is a perfect example of this.

He should have been doing everything possible to get OL, DL, and WR for this last class. Do whatever it takes. Recruiting or portal or whatever. He did not get that done. He may have worked his butt off, but the results aren't there.
How is next year looking. We do have one OL commit so that is good. What else? I don't hear many good things. He can work as hard as he wants, but that is not enough. You have to know what you are doing. You have to have a talent for recruiting. I don't think it is something you can easily learn. You can also help your recruiting shortcomings by getting a staff of top notch recruiters. He hasn't done that either. He promotes potato gang and then looks to the west for new coaches that aren't proven recruiters, with one being in NCAA trouble.
You know when you have a solid coach that can recruit and create excitement around the program. You will hear everyone talking about it. Players, fans, coaches, press, fans, etc.
He just doesn't have it. Cut bait.

Glad some of you have zero influence in the athletic dealings of Auburn or you'd have fired Pearl after his first season, posting a 4-14 record in SEC or his second season, 5-13 SEC record.

Me too. I don't know anything about running an athletic department. Of course, the rest of you don't either.

Except we all supported Pearl. The non bandwagon fans did anyway.

And that first team went on that run in the SEC tournament that helped with proof of concept

Exactly. There was promise early on that the right decision was made.
And then recruiting picked up to levels which we hadn’t recruited in ages.

What support is Harsin missing on the recruiting trails that’s hurting our recruiting efforts? He has a plane. He is provided two vehicles per year. He cherry picked his own staff. He is in close proximity to multiple fertile hotbeds of recruits in his region. What is he missing?
Those who follow recruiting like so many on this site do… know the answer.
If there’s one area Harsin’s gets plenty of support it’s recruiting.
If Harsin is as stubborn in recruiting as he shows in his personality then there will always be issues w Harsin and his recruiters.

I don't disagree. There is an obvious correlation with recruiting records and on field performance. I think where Gus was recruiting, right around 10th nationally and within the blue chip ratio, is about the minimum you can be at where you can try to make up the difference with X's & O's, development, etc. You obviously need both to win at a high level, especially against our schedule every year.
I just believe that once we made a decision to go with a guy that wasn't recruiter you have to see it out at least 2-3 years, and everything going on now is not better for Auburn. And getting a recruiter will make everyone feel much better the other 7 months of the year, but the end results won't be much different on Saturday's without the X's & O's, development, and in game decision making.
