Anybody think TJ is “medically hurt” so that he can stay long enough to see which coaching staff comes in.
I'll take my chances in the portal. He's yet to eclipse a 63.2 QBR this season. Maybe line him up at TE or O Line.

He puts on 50 pounds he'd be the best OT on the roster

That’s not a horrible idea at all.

The issue is that what is best for AU now doesn't align with what is best for Harsin, and he's taking a scorched earth approach as assholes often do.
It is better for Auburn if these guys save a year of eligibility and are still on the roster when the new coach comes in. Harsin knows his tenure is over and is just being an arse.
If we had a strong AD in place he would overrule Harsin and keep these guys on the roster.

It's not a super high bar but TJ has chicken legs and not sure he has great footwork either... not sure how athletic he is. Would be interesting to say the least though.

Maybe, maybe not. I agree with you Harsin doesn't have any credibility or goodwill right now to back his position. He may be doing this entirely as a football coach trying to keep order/hierarchy/the best product, but it's hard to blame kids for not really buying it.

Will they hit the field guns blazing, with a defiant “to hell with the haters” attitude? Or just go through the motions in an effort to get this dreadful season over with?

In a normal situation I'd agree. The opportunity for him to put a good product on the field is past and the best thing for Auburn right now is stopping the blood loss and securing a future for the program.
If I were the AD (which we don't have obviously) I'd be having a conversation with Harsin that these guys are allowed to redshirt if they want to. I'd also be building a case for firing for cause.
There's also a growing body of evidence here
Coordinator/staff turnover driving an investigation
Mounting medical redshirts
Massive numbers of transfers without replacements
Now, players entering the portal, his own recruits... because he's burning their redshirts on a lost season

Yeah I'm no Harsin fan, but I'm guessing this is a weird spot for everyone. Harsin (and any other coach) is unlikely to make decisions right now he wouldn't make in any other coaching scenario. But we're not in a normal scenario, and thus the issue.
From his perspective I'm sure he would say "I'm the coach of AU until I'm not and I'm not going to start acting like I'm not going to be elsewhere until that's known." Which I have a hard time disagreeing with.
Ultimately, I think the issue is Auburn. For a while I felt the arguments for making the change immediately were fairly weak. Not that I think it wasn't justified, just that most of the stuff thrown around as why it had to be immediate was largely fluff. But here we have a real world example of the issue. Auburn keeping Harsin on created this situation - he can't stop being the HC until he's not the HC, but players (and Harsin) are left in limbo because AU hasn't made the move yet.

I'd also be building a case for firing for cause.
Tennessee got away with firing Pruitt for cause by admitting to paying players. They still got drug through the courts over it, and Heupel was viewed as yet another bad hire even by their own fanbase.
And they are still facing a potential hammer from an NCAA Enforcement Division striving to remain relevant.

Even ignoring him I'm torn on if a kid should have a say in his own future so far into the season and wasting an extra year they could have actually played all year. At the same time if you have 3 QBs and the 3rd is redshirting but the top 2 get hurt late in the season and the 3rd is good enough to play and win then he should play if need him. If he has potential and isn't ready and you'll lose with him then run the wild cat or use a wr or someone that knows the offense and can manage to play QB.

In my day-dream, the new Prez frog-marches HARD Harsin into the President’s office and orders him to give red-shirts to those players who want one and rarely (or never) play.
If HARD refuses, voila! Fired for cause!
If HARD quits, voila! His contract is void!
That little dream makes me happy.
