That's because his influence was never felt unlike a Kevin Steele since he was running Gus's offense

Right. Same with Dilly.

It's clear now though that they were both talented up and comer guys all along, but it was never gonna be a workable situation.

Rhett had to make a terrible move to UCONN and still made it work. Respect.

Michigan just hired CHIP LINDSAY as its OC:

I think I'll wait to see their success as head coach over a 3-5 year span...

We have seen what happens when you get overly excited over 1-2 years of success....

Should’ve given Dillingham playcalling responsibility and $ to keep him in 2020, but surely this board isn’t upset about that, since Gus got fired that year, which people still shockingly defend as the right move.
of course its quite possible that if Dilly had playcalling responsibility in 2020 Gustav might not have been fired

Wow it’s as Auburn football is cursed now. Our coordinators always peak outside of Jordan-Hare

Must have been true but he left us real quick

Wasn’t he the one that had some dark skeletons and we had to strong-hold the resignation?

Gus needed to go. He regressed majorly, as he’s done at UCF.

Couldn’t win vs our big 3 (LSU, UGA, Bama) without basically miracles.

Sure, Gus wasn’t gonna retire at Auburn, he was going to be let go at some point.

Firing him after 2020, fake covid season, where Gus had a winning record against all SEC schedule anyway (seems like a pipe dream now), with the state of our administration…absolutely moronic.

Boosters who wanted him gone were scared to give him 2021 because they rightfully feared he would beat Alabama at JHS like he did 3/4 tries and they’d be stuck with him for another year.

Agreed. He should’ve been fired in 2015

That would’ve been pretty insane as well.

The correct answer was not giving the extension after 2017, or at least not one with such a rich buyout.

I really don’t know how now, after 4 straight losing seasons, there’s such a lack of humility from our fanbase. Gus wasn’t the forever answer for Auburn, primarily because of his issues against UGA and LSU. After seeing what the bottom looks like though, you would think people would have some perspective and realize Gus wasn’t the disaster he’s made out to be.

Yep, we should have let The Hogs call him home when Gus presented his bluff

This was 100% the play. We never should have given him that extension.

They weren't worth crap until they expanded their experience and learned better outlooks.

Too bad you never played the game ......
