There was nothing in last year’s production that amazed me about Hilliard.

Sorry, I disagree. I thought the receivers caught the ball much better than the previous season. We got guys open. We just had a QB that wasn't good at hitting them.

I do remember seeing MD’s name on one of those too young coaching lists last year. Always liked him as a player. Does seem out of left field, but I Hope this ends up being a HR run

So I agree that a few of our receivers improved. Var Johnson, in particular.

Koy Moore was new so who knows.

We also changed coordinators so who knows how much of that can be credited to Kiesau.

What about my thoughts on recruiting and Camden Brown?

I don’t remember who said it but someone that led the coaching search said we had a recruiting ace coming in like two weeks ago. He seemed to say that based on results, and not potential.

It is pretty safe to say Davis isn’t the speculated guy right?

1 year isn't enough to judge a position coach, imo. Same goes for head coach. I do think 1 year is enough to judge play calling ability on both sides but that's about it.

Rest assured on one thing…absolutely no one on this board knows one way out there other. I think Freeze has a good handle on the immediate need of recruiting and its ongoing #1 priority of importance in order to build the program. I have to believe that Freeze sees this guy as a helluva recruiter or he wouldn’t have gone in this direction.

Camden Brown is my favorite receiver but he was a true freshman last year. And probably a 3* recruit.

Hilliard was legit. He was too legit for Harsin’s staff.

I won't post all my thoughts but someone just explain to me how you use analytics to grade a WR coach with 2 years experience?

know several emergency medicine doctors making more than that at a comparable age in a high pressure environment. Your ageism is showing.

Meh, a skilled trade, years of college, residency, and training to become a doctor is a lot different than being a coach.

I just hope he can recruit, because he’s going to have to sell mommas and daddy’s and get into their living rooms about why their kid should play for him.

Hopefully it works out.

Seems Hugh got lazy like Gus did by hiring Grimes again.

Hugh is a lot of things but lazy isn't one of them. We can speculate about why we didn't steal the #1 wide receiver coach from someone but calling Hugh lazy is silly.
He apparently has a system he's using that we aren't used to and it makes us uncomfortable.
I'm going to trust the system until there is proof it doesn't work.

We whiffed, Randy. Davis isn’t the analytics guy nor the recruiting guy.

We only assume Davis might be the analytics guy only because “analytics” is completely vague and less easily fact checked as something like recruiting guy because he obviously doesn’t deserve that label already.

The whole analytics stuff is a whole bunch of quackery in the grand scheme of things anyway. Coaches learning they can hide behind analytics so they cannot receive blame for the desire moves not turning out arent unique.

Davis is definitely the analytics guy. Go look at that firms twitter feed right now. They’re absolutely gushing over the hire. Tifwiw

Yeah it’s safe to say he was the one they were hinting at. My skepticism lies that we have enough data on him to say that he’s a “5 star coach”. But I also have done zero digging into their methodology so maybe I’m the idiot.

I love the hire! Clearly CHF wasn't going to pay a WR coach $600k. So if we're not going to get an established coach, why not get a young, hungry coach with S. Florida ties, a love for Auburn, and high potential that's recognized by his profession?
