Guys, the QB excuse is nonsense at this point. Watch the damn games.

Teams all across the country find ways to win games with average or worse QB play every single week. Missouri just did it to us yesterday. Brady Cook was 11 for 22 (50%) for 194 yards and 0 TD's. That is NOT good in 2024. On the last drive he missed MULTIPLE throws no different than Thorne does, but what happened? We bailed him out, just like we do every single week. The difference is that when its 3rd and 18, 4th and 5, or 3rd and 10 our defense collapses and concedes plays that never should be conceded. When Peyton Thorne is in 3rd and 18, you will notice that the opposing team doesn't magically blow a coverage or blow containment to let him run for an uncontested 1st down. When we have 3rd and 18 the OL tends to magically decide to block no one, and the play is over within 2 seconds. It doesn't matter who the QB is in that scenario. When plays need to be made, nobody on this team wants to do it. Whether its Thorne, the OL, the receivers, the defense, or the damn kicker.

I'm getting tired of AU fans hyping up average or worse QB's from opposing teams and pretending like we are losing because we don't have these supposed mythical beasts behind center. The kid from Arkansas who beat us looked no better than Robby Ashford. Again, not impressive QB play at all...but we bailed him out continuously. Arky's QB has 6 TD passes and 6 INT's, yet they are still sitting at 4-3. No, he isn't good.

Oklahoma beat us with a crap true freshman QB and 2nd and 3rd string WR's. He made two plays the entire game - and one of them was a blown coverage. That kid got benched in their blowout loss yesterday after he threw 2 INT's on 5 attempts. Again, we didn't lose because he was better than our QB, we lost because we are a loser team and we invent new ways to lose regardless of the opponent. Thorne had 3 TD passes in that game. Similar to Arkansas, Oklahoma is sitting at 4-3. They are a bad team with a bad QB, yet they have twice as many wins as us.

We lose games because the entire team top to bottom cant win. Thorne is a part of that, but open your eyes people. This is not a QB problem, it is a foundational problem which starts with the HC.

And I pointed this out to you guys a few weeks ago: Texas A&M is 6-1 with a brand new HC and a million transfers that have come in and out the last two seasons. They do NOT have a "star QB". Someone for the life of me please try to explain what Connor Weigman does well? The guy is completely mid.

They are winning games because Elko is a hard-nosed HC, and his team understands situational football well. When their defense is in a position to get off the field, they get off the field. They close games out, whereas we do the complete opposite (literally fumbling away games that are essentially won).

We are a capable team that has no idea how to execute at any level. Worse yet, even when they execute for 3 full quarters, they somehow find a way to go haywire and lose. This is all entirely coaching related. You need a star QB to contend for a national championship. You do NOT need Peyton Manning in order to win 7-8 games with this roster.

Dont know if you have ever met Meta before but he always makes sense. He appears to be right here but he has made sense and been completely wrong as well. He is well articulated but sometimes connects the wrong dots. Kudos to Meta he could probably convince a group to drink antifreeze

CHF has just proven me correct

That’s all

Bottom line for Auburn as a whole is:

Leadership at the top needs to do something to bring everyone together and to be in complete alignment

Exactly what that is, that’s entirely up to them to figure out

You and I and the rest of the fanbase have absolutely no control over this (at the moment).

So, what do you think we should do? If we fire Freeze, who do we get? We couldn't get Lane to leave Oxford. Name any proven, championship winning coach that would come to Auburn when we fire Freeze after 2 years.

We couldn’t hire a proven championship winning coach if we fired Hugh after 10 years. Next hire will not be a top coach, just like all the others, so no need for that to be a criteria.

TAMU lost guys, but Jimbo recruited well his entire tenure. Comparing what Freeze inherited vs Elko is ridiculous. Harsin made it a point to run off what little Gus recruited, then back filled with SBC guys.

This is definitely a missing link. I attribute it to both coaching and the amount of youth we have on defense.

We also have an uncanny knack for untimely penalties.

Dude, Texas A&M has had 58 players transfer OUT in the past two Portal classes. I already checked: from their one huge HS class that had ~8+ 5-stars, the majority are gone from the roster. The guys that did stay are for the most part not even in their starting lineup - they are guys who are busts, which is why they stuck around as opposed to getting offers to go elsewhere.

Last year they had 4 ~5-star players leave alone: Walter Nolan, Evan Stewart, LT Overton, and Tony Grimes. There was another ~10+ that left who were 4-stars in HS.

One of their few holdover 5-stars is Conner Weigman, but he isn't even the reason why they are winning. He is completely mid.

The fact that you think that A&M lost all those games and fired Fisher, and yet all of their "elite talent" stuck around is beyond silly. When coaches get fired, players leave. Why would you operate under the assumption that Elko walked into a gold-mine of talent.

Keep in mind that all of A&M's "talent" lost to a Robby Ashford and Carnell Williams ked team after Harsin got fired in one of the ugliest games you will ever see. That A&M "talent" was already tainted long before Elko ever took over. The guys that did stick around and didn't leave already were all part of Fisher's incompetence.

I can’t believe we lost to Oklahoma. They are a complete disaster and just fired their OC after losing 35-9 at home to USCe….

The only thing worse than all the losses he keeps stacking is listening to his press conferences.

Even he doesn’t believe his own BS any longer.

I had to stop listening.

I feel bad for the guy that he can’t just get out of his own way.

My hypothesis is the boosters with the NIL told him to spread the money around to different positions..

Gave him a certain amount for the QB position. It’s not a coincidence Riley Leonard was a Crystal Ball lock, with his gf with Auburn ties, then he quickly bounced to Notre Dame

That’s the insult to injury. We aren’t losing most of these games to good teams. Georgia is the only good team we have played. QB is an issue, but the problems are much deeper. There is a losing culture/identity with this team.
