Seems reasonable to me. I'm far more concerned with a per player average than anything else, anyways. In today's game, even before all the NIL madness, you really operated on a 2 class or so window anyways.
Looking at who we are trying to focus on too, it seems that staff will focus on your interior spots a lot for HS recruiting when in a budget/smaller class. I think they see that the skill positions, each year there will probably be a pretty large pool in the portal. So, if having to make choices, opt for the positions closest to the ball.

This strategy of 2 big money classes as like the last 2 then a more budget friendly class like the current one might be the way to build and hold a roster.
But if we stay stagnant forget budget friendly anything.

Gotta stay below the 20.5m. Or at least that is how Auburn is working currently.
There will be a shite ton of lawsuits between now and the first of the year over NIL. So just let it work itself out. Get some good players and some players that have some potential high upside but will take a couple years to develop.
And of course it’s time to start winning some games. I’m already on record at 9-3. That would be a great start to getting on the right track.

I get it. Freeze and Cohen are following the rules to the letter because EVERYONE on this board has seen what a giant governing body will do when Auburn stands before them. Texas, bama, Georgia can over sign and go over the Cap but if Auburn does......? We're cooked. With that being said i find it hard to believe those institutions are dumb enough to break the rules to OUR benefit after we held a literal press conference detailing what we plan to do if things move in our favor. Maybe Auburn is betting on the damage being done already? Anyway, I can't see the strategy in telling the world about our grand plan to turn the recruiting world on its nose. I feel like those schools are smart enough to adjust if we're just going to tell the world what we're planning.

What exactly are you referring to here? What grand plan have we revealed to the world?

Its not going to be fixed August 1st, thats when the clearing house starts reviewing deals to see if they pass the litmus test, then we will quickly know how we can move forward. Signing day is not til December.
Many of our targets had us listed in their top few schools, then we disappeared when we did not make concrete offers......if money was the deal breaker.....money will bring them back.
There will be more flips throughout college football than ever before this fall.
By the time we roll into JH six and 0 and spank the puppies, we will be beating the recruits off with a stick.

The clearinghouse has already rejected some and the first threats of lawsuits has already started.
The 1st is when deals can be signed.

Tomato....tomato. My point is, we will have clarity soon on if NIL deals can be offered over the school's budget, and what kind of NIL deals are "deemed" legit.
I guarantee the targets we have on our board have been contacted and we have made it perfectly clear we will be forthcoming with an offer when this is done. And certainly do not sign anything without the aforementioned from another school, lest it is not worth the paper it is written on.
Many, many of these kids "committed" to save a spot and "potential" money. There will be more flips than ever, for the system as a whole, during the fall.
We will be fine, very fine.

I do wish we had insight as to how we look at positions, safety for instance.
We have Kaleb Harris, and options at the other safety. We then pick up Jacoby Mathews who will probably take that other spot. Behind them we have Newboy and Eric Winters (plus the other options previously mentioned).
Now we have Bralan Womack. Its us or Ohio State. He is an absolute stud, his sister plays softball for Auburn, he has been to campus a 100 times. If we spend the money he will probably come to Auburn. But if we dont, that money could probably buy us two or three very good OL/DL.
Tough decisions, guess thats why Redmond and the coaches/staff make the big bucks.

Clearing house has no teeth. As soon as they try and enforce anytype of enforcement against NIL, schools will get litigious. You are already seeing schools starting to sue and its hasnt even began.

I can't help but to think recruiting changes drastically if Auburns interpretation of the new NIL rules are correct. I've heard Freeze mention more than once that it's going to have to be treated more like an NFL roster so basically only the 55 or so players that contribute are actually getting paid real ??. That would make it difficult to pay a freshman who may need a year or two to develop

I can only imagine if it goes the other way. Schools have a base of footballs portion of the 20.5 million, and boosters at some schools start throwing in 30 or 40 million.
Now the top players that know they will go in the first couple of rounds go to the draft. But the rest that arent sure they will get drafted, and are good players, they may opt to stay in school for a guaranteed 500K or more. No one goes early, a slew of them file hardship for an extra year, the average career of an NFL player is 2.4 years, within a few years the NFL looks like scab teams during the strike of years ago

The concern is even if auburn is interpreting it right, if there is no enforcement what does it matter?

This is what makes Auburns attempt at threading the needle of the clearinghouse thing kind of funny to me. The first lawsuit filed on behalf of an athlete and the house of cards falls AGAIN. Court system has been very consistent in the last 10 years or so, because the NCAA has no anti-trust exemption and CBA any attempts to hinder "earning" will end up being moot.

Wilkes today, I think he picks the good guys. Interesting on Locked On, Brian Smith said he had spoken to him recently and he is 240 or better, he will be an edge/ end.
Wonder what that means on DL and linebacker recruiting.

Anthony Davis is one I think we are trending for at LB.

Auburn is getting a top 100 edge commit today. They might be opening the wallet back up.

Believe we’ve had the money all along for certain players and that’s why we’ve let a few walk.
Saving it for real positions of need.
