It is a one year contract these days.

which former AU QB does that remind you of??

In February 2024, Johnson re-signed with the Caudillos de Chihuahua. He guided the team to an 8–0 regular-season record before leading them to their second straight title by beating the Raptors de Naucalpan in Tazón México VII. He was named the Tazón México MVP after throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for two touchdowns in the 34–14 win.
BTW, since we’re making apples-to-apples comparisons:
JJ in first career start vs Western Carolina (2-10 FCS)
Passing: 17-21 (81.0 %) for 201 yds, 4 TDs 1 INT, QBR 92.6
Rushing: 3-27 (8.7 ypc), 0 TDs
Deuce in first career start vs Mercer (9-2 FCS so far)
Passing: 15-20 (75.0 %) for 239 yds, 2 TDs 0 INT, QBR 99.8
Rushing: 9-162 (16.0 ypc), 4 TDs

Another HIGHLY disappointing part of all of this is the recruiting site manipulation. NO, they didn't give promises but they STRONGLY suggested that we'd get all these flips, when in Truth they just want people to sign up. I get it..... they've done it for years but it's still a pathetic thing to see.

They suggested we could flip back Womack which didn’t happen. They were pretty upfront that Carter was leaning heavy to Tenn.
The other flips they mentioned were Deshawn Spencer, Brian Williams, Rhys Brush, Mykall Lundy-Foster, and the Wells brothers.
I think all of those are on track to happen, with the one to watch being the Wells brothers. But even there - they reported that Texas made a better offer to Chris Wells after Texas lost their other DL commits
I’m only on Rivals/On3 these days so I don’t know if 247 was more manipulative, but I think everyone knew today wasn’t going to be one to celebrate

That's how he was supposed to play against Mercer.
I dont think we talk about Ashton Daniels enough. I was pretty frustrated with his body language, but he played so much better than I could ever imagine after Hugh left. He was crippled by drops and his game tying drive was crippled by a receiver fumbling the ball.

I am not married to Duece next year, but I think between him and Daniels we have some hope even if the USF kid stays.
If the USF kid comes I think we lose one or both of them. Duece probably wants playing time and Daniels only has one year left.

He surprised me with his play. He definitely will transfer if Brown transfers though. They both only have 1 year of eligibility left.

Revisiting t2012 Recruiting Class- We Were Spoiled Bitches
Posted on 12/3/25 at 12:20 pm to higgs_boson
The staff did a poor job recruiting after Hugh was fired. Florida fired Napier before us and they sit at 13th. LSU sits at 10th. We are at 58th.
Hopefully Golesh doesn't pull a Harsin and try to win with 3 stars (you can't). I am not blaming this poor class on him, though. Someone at AU wasn't throwing out bags like they've done the past few years.
Maybe AU's plan was to spend big in the portal this cycle. Let's hope that comes to fruition.

I don't think its a given they would transfer. Daniels transferred in knowing his future wasn't in football.. I think he was trying to just learns he could coach when he's done in college. I think he could come back, and Deuce can sit next year and still start for 2 or 3 years because Brown and Daniels are both seniors, so it won't impact him long term. Arnold is for sure gone, but I think if the money is right Brown, Daniels and Deuce could all be on the team. Wouldn't be shocked if one left, but not shocked if they stayed either.

Kind of felt like recruiting was frozen in time from sometime in the Spring. For a number of reasons it seems, all of which frustrating

And there is/was an excess of HS recruits that are leaving the state. I will say 2027 is a good year and we have a shot at most of them.

Florida and LSU were also way ahead of us prior to anyone getting fired. The strategy of the AD and Hugh to "wait and see" what the revenue sharing rules were gonna look like really put us so far behind everyone else this cycle. That was so dumb.

Penn State has 2 signees so far, one of which is Peyton Falzone. In addition to that, they’ve got just one commitment that’s unsigned

Franklin did the same thing to Vandy when he left them

It was dumb. I hope we have a much bigger budget for portal and retention (for whoever Golesh wants to keep.) I know it is a balancing act, but given next year's schedule and our seasons of wandering in the desert, we need guys who can contribute day one.
