Nah, we'll usually see it sometime in the next week or so, but it won't hit the Internet until after game 1.

We already have the #5 curse. We can't afford to lose another number

Jake Holland, wonder if they read this board.
"Then the injuries started. And soon the criticism started, too. Holland became a favorite target of anonymous message board critics. The criticism reached a fever pitch as Auburn’s defense collapsed down the stretch en route to a 3-9 record last season, and it hasn’t stopped yet. Some of the criticism has been painfully personal."

Probably. This is the only AU site where you can post your honest opinion. But he needs to realize, when you play like shite, people are not going to like you. He needs to stop being a pussy.

I'm baffled that a player thinks he should get praise for playing bad

We don't have painfully PERSONAL criticism on here. If we do, that person usually gets shot down. We may have a lot of real criticism.......

I'm baffled that people feel the need to contunously attack a college player. A pro who's getting paid 6 or 7 figures I can understand... but he's not getting a dime, outside of a free education.
He'd do good to lay off the boards, though... nothing good can come of it for a player (or parent in Jake's case), even if he were to play better this year. Once people turn on you, their opinions aren't likely to change... dude could win the butkus this year and people would b*tch 'where has this been?'

I agree with everything you said. ... except you downplaying his free education and other benefits he receives as a football player

I think I heard people bitching about him very loudly after every game last year on the way out. I just laughed and wonder which one of you it was

quote:Yeah, this is kind of a big deal. A LOT of students don't have this privilege and end up having to pay for their education 10+ years after they leave campus.
but he's not getting a dime, outside of a free education.
You're talking about 10k a year for Alabama residents and 26k a year for non-Alabama residents JUST for tuition. Auburn estimates with books, food, board, etc, it's about 28k for residents and 44k for non-residents.
So yeah, he's getting paid about 28k for playing football at Auburn per year.

Why? They are message boards and people say all kinds of stuff that may or may not be true. The player may not be getting a dime, but the fan may be spending a lot of money in support of the university, and feel they have the right to critique any and every thing. It may not be fair, but then life isn't always fair. I do agree that personal attacks are unnecessary, but who knows what he considers personal.
If a poster is saying Holland's tackling skills are horrific and they have proven to be. He may take that personally. I agree however that a player should learn to stay away from the message boards along with the parent(s).
Yes some fans/posters can always find something to bitch about. I saw posters write 2010 was ok and glad we have the crystal, but would have been better if we blew out more teams and not have to come back for a win. LOL nature of some people.
eta: good points on the value of his scholarship and what it covers. However, I took it as the student is still an amateur athlete and may not deserve the same criticisms as a professional athlete might due to his salary being so high.
