The coaches may have been telling KF he was #1 to try build up some confidence and then pick which one they want before the season. They had nothing to lose by saying it back then but could pick KF up some.

Having to do that should be telling enough that Kiehl should not be starting. If you have confidence issues, you have no business playing QB

Because if the people were truly close to the program, they would know that the chatter from the coaching staff before fall camp started was that KF was the frontrunner out of spring and it was his position to lose
Then why list him and Wallace as co-starters?
Marshall is going to win this job, no doubt
I think it was more of a default listing than anything else. There's a post spring depth chart they had to put out and only 2 QB's on the team at the time, therefore you have them as "co-starters."
I'd be surprised if Marshall is not the starter come kickoff, but to just assume that Frazier is completely out of it until we know for sure is a little short sighted, imo. If he'd given up by now, he would probably have already filed his papers to transfer somewhere he can play. Or maybe he's just content to ride it out and be a backup from here on out.

Im not trying to be a negatiger. But, every year at the beginning of fall practice, we always get the same stories. And I love to hear them but I will believe them on Aug 31st
Yeah I agree with this. Anything one player says about another, I take with a big grain of salt.

I'd be surprised if Jason Campbell didn't go through the same thing when we had a different OC every year of his career at Auburn until Borges finally got his potential out of him.
Again, I don't think Frazier will be the starter, but I do think if he can somehow get his head on straight and get some confidence, I think he's got as good a shot as any of the ones we have. I think last year just killed him mentally, and that sucks, because he's a very physically gifted QB.

I won't disagree with that. I just don't ever remember a time a player came out and said much more than...."we're starting to come along a little better" or "we're improving every day," that type of talk.

I remember players saying more than that the past couple years. But you never know with my memory.

This is basically what I was getting at. We have heard how great things were going and how it was a new attitude. And that is exactly what they should be saying
But I am a realist. And I will need to see it first.
Then I will believe.

I'm referring to specific quotes about performance on the field, not the new attitude thing. You hear that just about every year.
I don't ever remember hearing anyone say the quarterbacks look "amazing," "spectacular," etc.
And it's definitely possible that he had lower expectations after the shite show that was our offense last year, and two new QB's coming in that they'd never had a real practice with. I can only hope it's true, but I'll wait and see what kind of product is put on the field before I engage fap mode.

Players and writers, yeah. I hadn't heard anything about KF being close to the front runner.
Players do not equal coaches. I was told before last year that in fall camp, Jonathan Wallace and Mosely were hands down outperforming Frazier and posted such on this board. I heard it from players and they could see it clear as day. Sometimes the coaches think they see glimpses of hope and are stubborn. IDK. Point being, writers and players oftentimes have no idea what is going to happen. If you had a true reflection of who is performing and who isn't, (at least under Chizik) from the players, our starting lineups would be completely different

They brough NM in to compete but that doesn't mean Frazier wasn't the leader out of spring. If they named him starter before NM got on campus people would have gone crazy. Especially after his horrible spring game.
I am not saying that Frazier is starter or that he even will be starter, it is just my understanding that Gus has a lot of hope and faith in his ability to turn around Keihl's confidence (what they think is wrong) and that his understanding of the offense's foundation puts him ahead gonig into fall camp. Huge factor that will play out is how they view NM's leadership and ethics though.
I truly believe from the reports that it is hard to imagine NM not winning the starting job. Doesn't matter what the feelings were from the onset, players believe in him and his athleticism is clearly off the charts. He is a game changer. I just wouldn't count KF outI wouldn't normally post this if I heard it from one person because that is some pretty heavy stuff to take at their word but I have heard it from two guys. I have heard my earlier info from two unrelated sources that have been solid before.

I was one of the last supporters of Frazier last year, so I'm not counting him out. I'd just be shocked if Nick didn't beat him out of contention.
Posted on 8/5/13 at 3:14 pm to rbWarEagle
I think it ends up like this:
1) Nick Marshall
2) Jonathan Wallace
3) Kiehl Frazier
4) Jeremy Johnson (redshirt)

If he can fix things I'll support him. Confidence issues are a hard thing to overcome. Especially, if you already had a hard time throwing a swing pass to the flats
I'd bet if Keihl is seriously in contention, it is more a symptom of the coaches seeing the potential talent and having a hard time seeing a sunk cost. Think DeAngelo Benton. The kid could ball athletically but he could never put it together on the field. While likely for different reasons, Keihl appears to be the guy that has a high talent ceiling but will never realize that potential and the coaches are having a hard time seeing past just how high the ceiling is.

I would just rather not start a QB who is, at best, 50-50 on hitting a damn screen pass. Frazier tries to aim it instead of just throwing it because his accuracy is awful and he knows it. Missing easy throws is what is going to keep Frazier from really challenging for the job IMO

I'm with you, I really am. Just relaying some reliable information I got. TIFWIW
Kiehl has a ton of potential, we wouldn't have been so excited before last year and have been championing for him in 2011 if he didn't. Something just went wrong with him which is really unfortunate. Hopefully they either work on his mechanics or fix his mental block.

I think we all felt pretty good about KF after the Clemson game. He showed signs of being a solid, stick your foot in the ground and make a strong throw-QB. He had a few overthrows but nothing outrageous.
After that, he could never build on the positives and the negatives just overcame him.
I guess we'll see soon enough.

Apparently we were practicing a dime package with Frost as only LB and Therezie/Garrett both in at stars. Then Holsey at boundary, Whitehead at FS, and Mincy/Davis at CB.
That's a heck of a lot speed. Bet that will be the base defense against WSU
