This best thing about this QB battle is I’m going to be excited about whoever wins. If it’s Gatewood, I’m looking forward to watching him run over SEC defenses and developing as a passer throughout the season. It’s definitely exciting to think of Gus getting back to a true dual threat QB.

If Nix wins, I think that says a lot about his potential and there is no doubt he showed flashes in the spring game. He looked good in the read option and even better keeping plays alive and throwing on the run. He will have a stable of WR’s to spread the ball around to.

Only downside to Nix winning the battle, is we will probably never see Gatewood get a chance baring injury or serious struggles from Nix. Not a bad thing if Nix is really that good, but I agree I don’t want to see us switching both in and out.

Probably because Nix showed he was mobile enough to be a threat running the RO. .

He showed he can run, but JG Is 5 inches taller and about 40lbs heavier than BN which works well for breaking tackles and gaining extra yards. But of course that doesn’t matter if he’s an INT machine.

I’m not stuck on either one, but JG seems to be the type that Gus wins with best.

Ferg Notes:

- The 1st group of WRs in full offense work was Eli Stove, Seth Williams (slot) and Marquis McClain. Matthew Hill, Sal Cannella (slot) and Anthony Schwartz were 2nd.

- RB rotation went something like this: Whitlow, Martin, Miller, Shivers, Williams, Joiner and Richards.

- True freshman Owen Pappoe was consistently lined up at 1st team OLB next to K.J. Britt.

- The Tigers ran some split back sets during zone read drills. That would be a way to take advantage of the depth.

- Oh, and Joey Gatewood was with the 1st offense at QB. Bo Nix with 2nd.

- Like in the spring, Auburn is working T.D. Moultry at 1st Buck, while Nick Coe bounces around at different spots on the 2nd defense. Tyrone Truesdell was with the 1st defense at DT next to Derrick Brown.

- WR Zach Farrar is very tall and very fast.

DT Coynis Miller, DB Jordyn Peters and RB D.J. Williams were in non-contact jerseys. DT Daquan Newkirk and OT Prince Sammons were not dressed out.

I will be surprised if Nix isn’t getting most of the snaps by mid season, but I guess I’m in the minority.

Auburn fans have a pretty poor record of predicting who the starter at qb will be anytime there is a battle. Tubs last year the consensus was KB over Todd, Tyrik Rollison was going to take over Gus's 1st year as an OC at Auburn, Caudle outplayed Cam in the spring and we were 50/50 on who would start, Kiehl was the consensus the next 2 years, a large minority thought JJ would start as a TF over Marshall, same number thought he would over take him the next year and finally no way in hayul would noodle arm Sean White ever start for Auburn.

Joey + Boobee + Shivers in the backfield on a zone read has to be a nightmare on LBs trying to figure out what’s happening next

Yes, yes yes,

But, that only depends on Gatewoods ability to make the correct read. Just like with Malik Willis who gave some of us a hope that we would see Nick Marshall again. He looked like Nick. He wore #14. He was fast like Nick but, no can read like Nick.

I'd love to be this big for like a day. Dude is almost a foot taller than me and outweighs me by 100+ pounds.

Derrick Brown playing a little lighter
Schwartz added nice weight

Coynis is huge
Pappoe nearly 10lbs gained
Seth Williams up 14lbs
Whitlow down 6lbs hope it speeds him up
Michael Harris with about 20lbs of gained weight

Driscoll lost weight and virtually no change for our 2 centers which is troubling

Lighter than I thought he'd be. Wasn't he going to play inside?

Cant imagine why this is an issue. A heavy lunch isn’t going to fix bad technique

The biggest news is on the injury front as defensive tackle Daquan Newkirk (Achilles) and third-team offensive tackle Prince Micheal Sammons (undisclosed) did not practice Friday due to injury.

Meanwhile, other players wearing non-contact jerseys included defensive tackle Coynis Miller Jr., tight end Luke Deal, running back D.J. Williams and walk-on receiver James Owens Moss.

Guard Brodarious Hamm worked at right tackle with the backups.
Newcomer Keiondre Jones worked at right guard
Bailey Sharp was the second-team left tackle.
First-team offense: Quarterback Joey Gatwood, running back JaTarvious Whitlow, fullback Spencer Nigh, receivers Eli Stove, Seth Williams and Marquis McClain
Second-team offense: Quarterback Bo Nix, running back Kam Martin, fullback/H-Back John Samuel Shenker, receivers Matthew Hill, Sal Cannella and Antony Schwartz
A mix of starters/backups: Quarterback Joey Gatewood, tailback Malik Miller, H-Back Jay Jay Wilson, receiver Marquis McClain, receivers Eli Stove and Seth Williams. The offensive line included Bailey Sharp at left tackle as Prince Tega Wanogho Jr.'s top backup, Marquel Harrell at left guard, center Kaleb Kim, right guard Mike Horton and right tackle Jack Driscoll.
Another mix of starters/backups: Quarterback Bo Nix, running back Shaun Shivers, fullback/H-Back Spencer Nigh, receivers Anthony Schwartz, Sal Cannella and Matthew Hill. The offensive line, from left to right: Alec Jackson, Kameron Stutts, Nick Brahms, Keiondre Jones and Brodarious Hamm.
Anthony Schwartz was critical of himself, doing pushups on his own after one pace drill with the offense.
First-team defense: Buck pass rusher T.D. Moultry, defensive tackle Derrick Brown, defensive tackle Tyrone Truesdell and defensive end Marlon Davidson. Linebackers K.J. Britt and Owen Pappoe. Cornerbacks Noah Igbinoghene and Javaris Davis. Nickel Christian Tutt. Safeties Jeremiah Dinson and Daniel Thomas.
Second-team defense: Buck pass rusher Big kat Bryant, defensive tackle Coynis Miller, defensive tackle Gary Walker and defensive end Nick Coe. Linebackers were Chandler Wooten and Zakoby McClain. Cornerbacks were Devan Barrett and Nehemiah Pritchett. The Nickel was Jordyn Peters. Safeties were Jamien Sherwood and Smoke Monday.
Larry Porter worked with Spencer Nigh, John Samuel Shenker and Jay Jay Wilson on blocking technique quite a bit. Wilson received a couple of corrections.

Because last year they get steamrolled often and the sentiment was "Brahms is coming off a broken leg just wait until he has a year in the weight room"

Correct. He needed strength and conditioning. Weight for an OL is a bad, bad way to measure that

Its early but every report has said OP is a beast and takes no prisoners. They’re already saying he’s one of the strongest in the weight room. TWill said OP is “bugging the crap out of him” because he talks/calls/texts constantly about football situations, techniques, film. I can’t wait to see him on the field.

Meh, I guess you can change your body composition without adding weight but I'd like it a lot better if our anchor in the middle was about 315lbs

Just seems arbitrary to me. Give me some BWW coupons and 1 hour and I’ll find you 10 315lb people that don’t need to be anywhere near a LOS
