I really hope we see a lot of Joiner this year. Really pulling for this kid.

The cool thing about Joiner was that most coaches never believed he could be a true RB so they tried to recruit him at a different position. Gus told him last year if I remember correctly that he would give him a chance to play RB and from early signs, it appears that it will work out. Good stuff.

Neiko was a beast. Meant that as a compliment for Smoke.

Gus will use Nix all drive, then on short yardage/goal line he will bring in Gatewood for the scripted obvious run
Most people have told me they don’t care how much of a threat Gatewood is throwing the ball, they just want a running QB. Also, people continue to compare Gatewood to Cam. Did it make any difference that the entire world knew Cam was running in goal line and short yardage situations? Nobody was stopping him regardless.
If Gatewood is as dominant running the ball as everyone thinks, he should able to do that effectively in the red zone, off the bench or as a starter.

Personally I think Gatewood has been Gus’s guy for a long time. Don’t get me wrong, I think Nix has definitely made the competition an interesting one and he’s going to be great for us if he ends up being the guy.

Them white boys from North Western thought otherwise.

Everyone thought otherwise.
Yeah, he could tackle, but ask him to cover FSU’s water boy and he’s giving up a 15 yard gain.

I think your memory is failing in your old age

Nah, I was always a Thorpe fan
. Mostly because of his hitting power, but my dad also constantly talked shite about our DBs for the last decade so I was always the hype man for them.
Also, let it be known that “2.0” implies an update/improvement.

It literally defies logic.

That OL was pretty damn good that year too. I hope ours turns out to be similar a bunch of seniors, but I'd argue that the OL we had in 2010 played above their talent level that year. Only Ziemba and Mosely were drafted and they only made it a year or two each in the league.
We're in a good spot with our QB competition, but as much as I think Nix can do the job, I'd love to see a Cam Newton clone out there running the option. Cam still was able to keep the defense honest with his passing game. If Gatewood can't do that, he won't have as much success in the running game.

I'm not convinced Gatewood is the runner that people think he is. I'm sure he's better than JJ/Stidham running the ball but there is big gap between that and NM/Cam.

This is true of any serious DT QB...it completely changes the D's ability to defend the run. Defense is about numeric leverage and a "true" DT QB destroys that leverage, it's why Saban has struggled mightily with it over the years. I still don't understand why we don't have 5 Nick Marshall like QB's with a chip on their shoulders about not being recruited to play QB on roster every year. Surely one would work out and the rest could be moved to defense.
The same could be said about the 2013 OL...Nick made them better than they actually were from a talent stand point.

It's not like Gus isn't trying to find another Nick Marshall - the problem is that there is only 1 Nick Marshall. the only other player I have ever seen recently in college football is Lamar Jackson but he is also one of those once in a blue moon type players as well.
