If he can win 8 the year before during the even numbered year where I feel like he underperformed every year then 9 in the odd numbered year is easily where he should be.

Judging by Harsin’s performance last season , he would have won 3.

In 2020, with more talent and better coaching in your estimation, AU beat 0 P5 teams who finished with winning records. They also lost to a team who finished the season 1-8 against the rest of their schedule.
There’s a lot to criticize about Harsin’s job performance last year, but saying he would have been worse that Gustav is, as you say, folly.

In 2021 Harsin had a losing record. The first for Auburn since 2012. Harsin also lost to a group of 5 school.
