Arkansas was ranked #122 in total defense (by yards per play) this season. Last season they were ranked 47th in the same category. And in Odom's 1st year, they finished 64th. So he improved from year 1 to year 2, but fell off the map this season.
At Missouri in 2015, Odom had the 9th ranked total defense and the 7th ranked scoring defense. This was his only season as DC there. After that season he became HC and I am not gonna count those years since he probably wasn't running the D directly.
Before that he was at Memphis and did pretty well as DC there. They were ranked 117th in total D when he got there and were 28th by his 3rd year.
Verdict: We could certainly do worse, but I dunno. Seems "above average and not great" to me. His HC experience might be a plus, though.

Tubbs didn’t get “lazy” until Saban arrived. With what Saban was allowed to get away with I think he saw the writing on the wall.. Chiz came in and battled Saban pretty well on the recruiting front, but those last two years of Tubb’s recruiting came back to bite him.

I’ve never seen them be a heavy rush defense. They are multiple and don’t just have a base coverage style, but I’d definitely say they’ve been more similar in style to what we’ve done lately, which is bend but don’t break.

Kelly can coach but he’s a bammer he already turned down the DC job here one time when Boom left. I imagine we could get him if bamas DC leaves and he isn’t promoted but we don’t have time to wait on that

I will lose my shite is we fire Charles Kelly to be DC. He already proved he can't get it done. Some people are just meant to be position coaches.

Could y’all please stop listing every coach that played at AU as being a good coach?
I like the staff so far. So much potential. I’m sure we will get a DC and OC that compliments what Freeze is looking to do. Y’all are melting for nothing it seems.
This rebuild is a 2-3 year situation.

TRob is the real deal though. He can develop players and recruit. Now tell me your favorite coach? If you say reverend Hew I’ll smack you in the face.

I wanted Prime we all know that but Freeze is a damn good coach. He doesn’t have a big coaching tree especially after being sent down to a lesser conference. So just hiring a name that doesn’t match makes no sense to me.
Let it play out. I would Arnett would be my personal pick for DC currently and of the ones mentioned of T-Will, T-Rob, Grantham, Odom… I would go with Odom, T-Will, T-Rob, and never hire Grantham I’m that order.

I read at On3 that Nix was offered OC in title only but Freeze would be calling plays. Wanting him more for his recruiting? I just don’t know enough history on Nix so some of this is opinion and guessing.
My guess is the OC, no matter who it is will be in support of Freeze calling plays. At least for the foreseeable future. My guess is Freeze isn’t handing that over till he feels comfortable and won’t be leaving his employment in anyone’s hands but his own in regards to the offense. Right, wrong, or indifferent I think that is his plan to start with anyway. Or heavily involved in game planning at the very least.

Derrick Nix, right? Dude is a WR coach. That makes no sense to me. What happened to the long list of people Freeze had texting him? C’mon Pastor Brother Reverend Coach Hugh, don’t lie to the congregation!
