Thornes issue is he’s blind to the field. He gets tunnel vision and can’t see wide open receivers
I forgot who it was, but on the game thread, one of our members was there and said he didn’t see Coleman wide open on a wheel route and missed Simmons open on a seam!
I want someone to go through progressive, bc Plays are obviously there

Agree with this. Thorne is a completely different QB when he’s under pressure, and he’s been under constant pressure this season… courtesy of an anemic OL.
Thorne tips his plays … and he frequently telegraphs his primary receiver.
If I were an average DC, I would find preparing for Thorne to be a relatively easy game plan.

Cal, Oklahoma , and Vandy beat us this season … with quarterbacks less than 6’ …. It’s the heart, not the height

Cynical Lanier says both those teams beat our arse. Fairy tale Lanier thinks we someone win one of them.

Since I am overseas and couldn’t catch the game, I was looking for highlights and stumbled on an older AU UL game with Stidham at QB. It’s only a 4.5 minute highlight, but I was just blown away by how crisp Stidham was operating, confident, stepping up in the pocket, making throws adjusting on the fly… the run and pass game operating seamlessly…and of course Rod’s voice always bringing up some tears… just took me down a rabbit hole and wishing for better times.

Stidhams issues were similar to Thrones. He had some issues coming into Auburn and Malzahn was unable to repair them. He had happy feet and that continued the entire time he was at Auburn. We were all waiting for Gus to fix him but it didnt happen. Same with Hugh and Throne.
Someone said earlier that maybe Hugh was working hard to fix Throne but he may just be unfixable.
It will be interesting to see Hugh with a totally different QB. I honestly dont blame him for not developing White at this point, he has had his hands full. Even though it is his job and what we pay him for.
I'm ready for Thorne to be gone and some new blood back there to talk about

I know out of sight/out of mind..
Stid was one that bi-polarised our fanbase also. He had happy feet and was eager to scramble instead of stepping up in the pocket.
He had 64% completion for his Auburn career! Just like Thorne, he looked great during less tier teams.

But he did win some big games too. It was not all bad even though he drove us crazy. The big thing, I dont remember him losing games for us

Jarret Guarantano also had the game of his life.

Stidham was making some business decisions late in his career.

Freeze is working hard on recruiting, but it takes coaching too. 2012 and 2013 come to mind. Chez recruited a stellar O-line, but couldn't beat anyone better than the Lower Brouton School of Cosmetology.

We did not have a QB after Trotter get hurt. Much like we have not had a QB the last 2 years.

Stidham also played in an offense that played to its strengths (running the football), which meant that he had less opportunity to lose the game himself. Malzahn was very much a safe/run-the-ball coach at that point. His passing offense was predominantly screens and throwing it deep down the field where it was either caught or incomplete. There was not a lot of room for glaring mistakes by the QB, which is also why the NFL didn't like QB's coming out of those types of offenses.
During Stidham's two seasons we were 7th (2017) and 9th (2018) in the SEC in passing touchdowns, and 3rd (2017) and 8th (2018) in rushing touchdowns.
Do you know what that breakdown is like this year? You might be shocked to learn that we are tied for 2nd in the conference with Ole Miss in passing touchdowns, and we are DEAD LAST in rushing touchdowns. Yes guys, Peyton Thorne is leading an offense that is 2nd in this conference in passing TD's.
Freeze has been hell-bent on running his pass-first offense, despite the fact that we don't have the OL to do it, and the QB is more suited to be a game-manager. Meanwhile he has the #2 rusher in the conference, and yet we are dead last in rushing touchdowns. This applied to Hank Brown as well: two of his 3 INT's came inside Arky's 30 yard line. We got into scoring range, and instead of placing the ball in your workhorse back's hands, he let the inexperienced redshirt freshman throw the ball away to the other team.

Take out Alabama A&M and ULM.
We’ve underperformed in power 4 play.

It doesn't matter. Watch the games - when we get close to scoring position, Freeze wants to throw the football around. That is his natural inclination. He doesn't have the roster to do that, and Thorne is eating the blame for it. His highest rated SEC game is the Kentucky game wherein he was hyper efficient in a run-heavy offense.
By the way, 9 of Jaxson Dart's 22 total passing TD's have come against Furman and Georgia Southern, so this is hardly an Auburn-specific phenomenon (most TD's coming against weakest opponents). 4 of Arch Manning's 9 TD's came against UTSA.
Back to Dart: he had 6 passing TD's againsT Arkansas in a complete blowout, but he has actually been a ~1 TD/game passer in SEC play against all other opponents. 15 of his 22 passing TD's are against Furman, Georgia Southern, and Arkansas.

And 15th out of 16 teams in the conference in wins.

And yes we know that Hugh sucks. You dont have to keep saying it. People are touchy around here about the facts. You have to keep it positive. Two more recruiting classes and we are back baw.
